Made a start on the Jaguar.

Things went together without much fuss and the airframe, bombs, and fuel tank are ready for paint.

Mig looks awesome.

FYI: I'm doing a last minute switchup.  I was doing the Zevzda 1/48 Hind, but due to time constraints I'm doing 1/48 Tamiya A-10 which I will crossover with the Gulf War build

Thanks,

John

With just over a month left in the group build, I finally have the time to shop my progress!  Initially, I was going to build either Revell's A10 or A6 in 1/48th, I decided to switch it up and build Hasegawa's A-4M, in conjunction with The Model Geek's Podcast Scooter Group Build!

I am building this one into the CAG bird of a Scooter stationed at a former NAS near my home.

Ive added a bunch of resin and some photoetch at it as well....

Here she goes, so far:

I started with the resin replacement pilot and ejection seat:

Then I moved into the necessary surgery to make the kit match the 1:1 aircraft, and added plenty of tungsten putty to keep this from being a tailsitter:

got the cockpit built, installed and the fuselage assembled:

I usedthe spine noubted resin replacement that houses the additional avionics rather than the kit plastic components, in an attempt to prevent needing to fill seams.

and that is pretty muchwhere I am leaving it off for a bit, as the weekend madness group build kicks off in a few days!

"...failure to do anything because someone else can do better makes us rather dull and lazy..."

Mortal as I am,I know that I am born for a day.  But when I follow at my pleasure the serried multitude of the stars in their circular course, my feet no longer touch the Earth...

I was going to do the Zevezda Hind, but punted do to time.  Doing this A-10 instead.  Just getting started

Lots of options, but ordered the Euro 1 paints

Few fit issues unbecoming a Tamiya kit but here we are

Thanks,

John

It's high time I completed my entry.

I completed the 1/72 Hasegawa MiG-27. I didn't install the missles but have the rocket pods on. Typical inexpensive Hase 1/72 kit, few details but nice fit. The gear doors didn't fit well though but I got through it and got the kit off the bench.

Crown - that -21 is looking great

Steve - the -27 is terrific

Mach 1 - the Jag is a favourite of mine, looking good

Justin, the A4 is taking shape nicely

John - unlucky to have fit problems with a Tamiya - I'm sure you'll teach it some mannersSmile!

A few favourites here, I'm enjoying the show - thank you!

I'm on the home straight with my Beaufighter, will update with pics soon.

Stay safe,

Just an update, I haven't spent a lot of time at my bench lately, due to lots of other stuff going on, but I'm getting there.

So, engines & exhausts fitted, decalling started, various dangly bits painted -

External fuel tank painted - I used Humbrol Chrome Silver from the rattle can - next to my modelling knife, you can see how good the metallic effect is.  Obviously, it's far too bright & shiny as it is, it will be toned down a bit later on.

Undercarriage legs fitted - this looked a bit fiddly on the instruction sheet, but the fit of all the parts is excellent, so it was no bother at all -

Again, too shiny (Vallejo Aluminium), some grubbiness is coming its way!

So, that's where it is now, it won't be long until it's done - I'll keep you posted.

Cheers, Crown, I appreciate thatSmile - I like the Mig, too, the camo beats NMF for me!

Got a bit of bench time in today, since I've been off work:

Standing on her own three feet - at last!

It seems I am fated to have trouble with the transparencies in this build.  The kit provides wingtip lights for both leading and trailing edges, those on the trailing edges are "faired over", so I fitted them with superglue & painted them to match the upper & lower surfaces.  Then, a couple of days later, I noticed one had fallen off somewhere - the Carpet Monster strikes again!  Fortunately, there are more on the sprue (slightly different, presumably for a different version) so I pinched one & used it to replace the missing one.  I'll swap the other one out, too, so they match.

Both the main canopies (pilot's and observer's) had nasty glue stains from the masking process.  I managed to clean the pilot's canopy OK, but the observer's was having none of it!  My efforts left it in a poor state but, again, there was a spare (slightly different) one on the sprue so, again, I pinched it.  Don't tell anybody, will youWink

So, I've got some paint touch-ups to do, decals to finish, rockets to load up, then a gloss coat, some gentle weathering, and a flat coat to apply.  Oh, and the light to swap over!  Should be done this weekend, if all goes well.

Thanks for looking, stay safe.

John. thank you for your comments and lots of practice with an airbrush. I used Vallejo mig-21 color series. I have more controll when I thin an already thinned paint,I can always add color then subtract. I like the pic you chose..

Hutch. thanks again your doing a splendid job on the Beaufighter..

Things have finally slowed down at work and I was able to get some much needed bench time in.

Camo put down:

Next was some touch up of the detail painting and the decals. I'll be honest, I was worried about the decals since they are older than I am (kit was made in '77). A couple of them split in half, but it was a clean break and I got them lined up again so it looks like nothing untoward happened and the rest went on without fuss.

Here it is finished.

Lots of great work in this Group build guys.  Sorry I have not been keeping up but life has been busy.

I have been picking at my build here and there over the last few months and finally have the time to move it forward.  I painted the camo today for the second time.  I masked the camo the first time around and used the wrong brown but removed all the masking before realizing what I had done so I freehanded the other brown on and made adjustments on the rest of it to make it all look the same.  I'm happy with it now.  I'll give it a clear coat and then on to the decals. I'll have the same problem as Mach 1 with some old decals.  I can see a couple of them are already broken up on the sheet.  I'll try a clear coat and see if that helps.

Just a reminder that this is the old Heller Breguet 693

Hope everyone is having a great day with family and friends!

Coming down to the wire folks.  I know I'm not going to be able to finish my A-10 in the next 5 days.  Some of  you guys look like you're right on the finish line - hope you can wrap them up.

Thanks,

John

Not going to be able to finish mine by the deadline either.  Ran into horrible fit and alignment issues on the fuselage that I haven't yet come up with a plan to even begin to address (they're that bad).  Its on my shelf of doom now until I have a miraculous idea pop into my head. Bang Head

Barring a disaster I should be done by the end of the year.  I got the decals on yesterday. It was touch and go.  This was a 1960's boxing of this kit so the decals are almost as old as I am.  Anyway, I gave them a heavy coat of Testors clear coat laquer and that seemed to help.  The clear coat created a thick enough film that I actually had to cut around the decals to remove them. I only had problems with the tail flashes, 3 of the 4 broke apart but I was able to piece them together and get them looking half decent.
