since you all waited so patiently.... Wink

zoooom...action shot!

I think this is one of the best Mustangs I've built so far. The biggest challenge was getting the foil to look right, but I also tried a new technique: using a resin cockpit! Great kit, great fit (except on the open canopy pieces, the middle planes were to long to fit between the windscreen and rear windows!)

as always, questions, comments and concerns are welcome!!!

CallSignOwl I mean really now, what can I say. YOU HAVE NAILED THE WEATHERING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From the chipped and worn paint to the stripes painted over the stencils to the hastily painted and worn invasion stripes, beat up prop, I can go on and on. AND the foil work is second to none IMHO. The only thing I can find wrong with this build Miss Owl Indifferent Well its huge really, " Its not on my shelf !!! " Very very well done. Bow DownBow DownBow DownBow DownBow Down

MIss Owl the front page has been updated with your fine build.

Gamera cant wait much longer for those pictures of " FAT CAT" I am gonna email the weatherman and tell him to fix it for ya.

as always, questions, comments and concerns are welcome!!!

Yes i have a concern! You are making us hard working modeller dudes look bad with that model and i take offence to it!

DANG that one looks good....Ick!

But seriously now, i agree that this is your best pony to date. The chipping and weathered look are spot on and i like it! Your foilings skills are very appearant too. Absolutely lovely model girl!YesYes

Great job, Owl!! OK got a question: does the open canopy come with that Tamiya -B?  The only -B I've built was the Accurate Miniatures one, and would've liked to have opened the canopy, oh well.

yes, b17, the open canopy came with the kit. Dunno if it was user error, but the canopy pieces took a lot of fiddling to fit together!

!/72 Hasegawa Tojo coming along well. Dodged some decal disasters and not out of the woods yet.. I had to mask off and spray the white id stripes and as I did some of the sealer came off of the starboard wing with the blue tape glue. Kinda left a marbled look. For you guys who spray the dif metal finishes, what is your technique? do you tape or use wet news strips? how long to cure?

Here are some update pics:

I still need to put the nose decal on...

Well, stick a fork in her. I had a bear of time with the drop tank, seems it's still crooked and I couldn't get the anti-sway braces to all line up. Still the fighter herself is done.

Hey Furyan- thanks! She's the 1/48th Hasegawa kit.

I love the P-47 too, friggin' brute of a fighter, nothing delicate about it. As one friend called it - 'A Flying Sledgehammer...'

Gamera!

Thanks for that. What a sharp P47, awesome unit markings and panel lines especially. Good Chromate mix in the wells. Great build. I think I'm gonna mark a couple of those pics down.

Gamera - she came out great! Sorry the pancake tank got all wonky...ordnance is always where I seem to get tripped up!

If I ever do one with custom markings, I think "The Flying Sledgehammer" would be a pretty great name (and nose art!).

Noah T the Tojo is lookin really really good to my eye, very nice paint work you have done there, and in 1/72 scale no less YesYes

I dont recall what paint what paint you were using for the NMF, personally I am sold on Talon paints and have never had it lift on me. When I am going to do some heavy masking on my builds I over coat the base color with future before masking and have never had it lift once I have don't that. Of course sometimes I get a bit lazy and kick myself afterwards. Keep the pics coming man.

Eatthis Oh my Surprise  You want to do a 1/32 Streak Eagle ??? YES YES that would fit in here perfectly !!! Eats

Gamera hey buddy "Fat Cat" is a stunning build ! I love the shading you did on the NMF and the anti-glare panel. The shading is spot on in my book and the markings really really stand out . As far as the drop tank goes I would think a lot of them on the real thing weren't exactly centered nor perfectly straight, so I wouldn't worry about it. Very well done my friend Bow Down

Noah: Thanks! Just Testor's Acrylic yellow zinc chromate in wheel wells with a brown wash.

Doogs: Thanks, and you're more than welcome to use 'Flying Sledgehammer' as nose-art - in fact I'd love to see it!

Vetteman: Thanks! Though I'm going to fiddle more with the pancake tank, I'm afraid I'll knock the anti-sway braces off and lose them though so I'm going to have to be careful.

BTW: Anyone else think the 'cat' looks more like a dog or is it just me???

Awesome looking P-47, Gamera!  I'm in the sanding stage of mine, followed by more sanding and yes even more sanding.  Just get more work on it now that my A-20 is done for my own GB.

B17: Cool, looking forward to your jug!

Ya know, just got my new 1/72 Revell B-17 last month, when I push some stuff off the bench maybe I should start on that next year.

Hey V-Man, I finished the Nighthawk go check it out!

I'd like to another to this build if I may. I picked up the Trumpeter F-100D in 1/72 yesterday. I don't usually build 1/72 but the kit is exceptionally detailed and this bird should look stunning when finished.

Cheers

On the bench: A-4F 1/32 Hasegawa

Just deployed: F6F-5N Hellcat Nightfighter 1/48 Eduard

Up next: A6-E Intruder 1/48 Revell

Hi, haven't been on Finescale for a while, mostly modelling ;P But I have finished my 1st (May be more) NMF GB Build! I can finally claim that badge WOOT! This Academy P-51D (CA-18) has been in the works for 10 Weeks and is finally done! My first attempt at panel variations on a NMF scheme! This aircraft served with 77 Squadron RAAF in Korea, after being kept in storage with 81 Wing in Japan between 1947 and 1949. It was later transferred to the ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Force) in 1952 and continued to serve until the end of the Korean War in 1953, where it was disposed of. I am quite pleased with this, as I'm really a beginner of about 25 models over the past 1.5yrs... I used a silver rattle can for the basecoat, with Humbrol enamels used for the varied panels. The decals I used, one stretched and tore, so I used a slightly out of whack replacement, though the rest responded well with Micro-Set/Sol. I hope you guys like and appreciate it!

MilitaryAircraft 101 Nice little P-51D  YesYes I do like the shading variances in the panel shading and the markings you have chosen. Your first NMF finish sure came out much better than my first try at it, well done.
