Headlights, tail lights, and vision block lenses painted. Drybrushing done. I just need to add some final stowage and antennas, and do the weathering.

68GT - That Phantom turned out beautifully!  I love the sharkmouth on that camo!!

Theuns - Sorry to hear about your country's woes.  Seems there are problems no matter where you go or live, *sigh*.  Guess there's no such thing as a "perfect place", but I suppose we just have to make due with what we have.  Me, I just plan to build more models!!  Hope your decals arrive soon!

Stik - Pershing and TCs looking good!

I'm stil hanging around until the GB officially closes....want to check out these shelf queens getting done!

Thank you for the first hand information on life there. We don't see much on the news here about what is going on there. The big thing now is the "blade runner" case and it is being played up here as a South African version of the OJ Simpson mess from years ago here. Your cops are not coming out too well in the press here. But rarely do they anywhere Hmm

Well more progress on my Pershing today. I painted the attached stowage...

and lots of little progress on painting my TC figures... nowhere near done, but most basic colors are on now

Well, generally friendly kind people, massive divercity in landscapes, weather as you said and great flying!

South Africans seem to be particularly "ingenious" in solving local problems, just look at our previous defence industry during the sanctions. We were also the first to break down our neuclear arms program and biological systems.

The pitty is that there are some elements in the society that want to murder, rape and plunder our resources. I would say 99% of people here just want to get on with their lives and let the other be, black ,colored or white.

The biggest thing after Apartheid now is the ever growing gap between rich and poor. After the new Gov came in there was a new emerging black middle class , but the poorer workers still stay in shacks with no or little basic services (after almost 20 years of promises)

They are getting tired of this and "demonstrations" or riots are ever increacing. The Gov is sitting up and taking notice of this as next year elections are to be beld again (with all the pre -election promises, just as in all other countries, just to be let down till nex time)

There is a small element of the so called "black diamonds" the folk that are "connected" with the Gov who get stageringly massive contracts , but when the $ dissaperas and the work is not done, someone else steps up and more $ is handed out. Really sad as thousands of houses could be built for the "lost" tax money :-(

I am sure the old school ANC gents like Tambo and Madella never wanted this to be the situation.

As they say "Africa is not for the faint hearted'"

There was a huge killing of miners that were strikng violently , killing 2 cops and security folk late last year, so the cops went in , guns blazing and IIRC 40 or so miners killed, some clearly executed. Do take note though that the union that was striking was not "in bed" with the Gov.....go figure.

Having said all that, this is the only place I know and it would be a sad day that I pack up the family to leave, but it seems to become all more apparent that it will be within the next few years.

I will only do it for the future of my 2 girls as the opertunities here for them, even if well educated will be very limited.

You guys have also got some serious "issues" as with most other countries, one must however not forget that we are actually a 3rd world place here.

Anyway, "political" discution off before the mods send me an angry warnng LOL.

Some say the postal strike is over but there is a huge backlog, so I am still patiently waiting for my decals.

Yes Very nice work on the Phantom Weasel 68! I like it!

More progress on the Pershing today... a nice solid coat of MM OD 319Cool

and the Belgo TC figure with some Tamiya White Surface Primer... I am displying him next to a Tamiya TC figure that comes with their winter M4A3s and M26, he is very similarly scaled in build, quite lanky & wiry...

and before I had decided to go with most hatches closed, I modified this Tamiya driver bust with an added steel pot... I guess I will use him on my 76mm Jumbo or my Tamiya Pershing...Hmm also primed with the Tamiya White stuff and next to un modified drivers bust...

I would say the middle one but he looks a little thin so I'll sat the one on the left.

I finished the Phantom earlier this week.  I think this one was three or four years in the making.

He is a good figure, but his uniform is better for more temperate weather. Either early fall or mid spring in Europe. The other two guys have on full winter uniforms. More appropriate for Germany in March.

I hear ya stik- he does look a bit..... shiny Stick out tongue

I liked the Belgo figure because he's got the tanker's helmet, the binoculars, and I like his overall posture and the details. From the picture he 'looks' right to me, but then again I can't see him in person like you. My second choice was #3.

Ya know I bought the Belgo figure specificly for this build, but  now that I have built him, he is not quite looking right  for it to my eye. maybe once he is primed and painted...

OK, as stated yesterday, here pics of the build up to now.

the main kit (with some stowage added)

The three candiate TC figures, L to R Dragon, Belgo, and Tamiya (taken from an M4A3 105mm)

and each candidate TC figure in the TC hatch

Which TC do you guys think I should go with?

Been grunging things up on the Phantom trying some new things out.

Gray sludge wash on the bottom.

Used a Black sludge wash on top.  I also gave a try with shacking up the thinner jar I use to clean my brushes in and sprayed the mixture through the airbrush to tone things down. This would probably work really good on weathering a natural metal airframe and it would tone the decals down also.
