THE OFFICIAL IN THE BUFF B52 GROUP BUILD
Posted by Bockscar on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 3:57 PM

Hear that rumbling way, way off in the distance?

That's our B-52 GB, headed your way.

Don't try to take cover:

If you can hear 'em, then it's too late, they're already over head,

and those crater eggs they dropped are just about to hit

right where you are standing........might as well give it up

and join in guys!!!

BUFFologists, dust off that BUFF box, it's time to build her!

We have been planning this build for over a year, then a former AF BUFF guy Named Russ (Striker8241) started an incredible BUFF diorama, and inspired Rich (Sparrowhyperion) and I to finally open a build to the Forums.

The rules are very simple, and as these are large kits and undertakings, you have as much time
to build your kit as you need, the BUFF has been around 6 decades, so there's no rush.

THE OFFICIAL In The BUFF B-52 GROUP BUILD Rules:
1) Any BUFF, any scale, on the runway, tarmac, or flying, or in the Bone Yard
2) Associated BUFF Ground Crew & Equipment
3) Associated BUFF Ordnance
4) Associated Support Aircraft: Limited to KC's and maybe BEARS allowed if you also build a BUFF
5) You can claim your badge for building your BUFF.
6) No SAM's, a real BUZZ killer
7) Partial or completion builds allowed
8) Not an Annual Build, no time limit, we threw in 2013 just to remind us in 60 years when we started!
9) Dominic and Rich make up the rules per their discretion as we go along, within reasonPirate

Let us know what you have and what you want to do. There's a good chance a few BUFF
experts will join in as well, maybe they will be generous enough to share a few insights.

1)   HONORARY MEMBER: Striker8241 AKA Russ: 1/72 B-52D with Big Belly Mod, Operation Arc Light

Oh Boy! Oh Boy! Oh Boy!

Bring out your BUFFs!

On top of too many BUFFs, I have a KC-135A and a Tu-95.  I could be busy for quite a while!

I'll be joining this too, but I probably won't be starting right away. I have to get to my kit first, which will take some time. I also have a Tu-142 Bear to do as well.

I'm trying to find an old Monogram kit or an AMT.  I just don't want to crack open my still sealed 1/72 B52/X-15 combo...  Or if I can find a parts kit or parts of just the normal Monogram B52 Wings.  I was going to build this kit as separates, but the wings on the B52 have slits in them to accommodate the X-15's tail.

Hi Duke:

That's great, I'll put you down for both, and again, no worries on which or when you start,

Funny thing Rich:

There were a lot more BUFF kits on Ebay in the fall, including big conversion kits.

I almost sprung for a big AMT G conversion, and it is no longer available.

There's a nice Tamiya D at 1/100 going.

I saw this and thought theres no way i will be ready in time. But given the no time limit, i am in. Might be a couple of years before i get to it, but will give me something to aim for.

I have had an idea in my head for a BUFF dio for years. And it turns out Russ did as well, though mine wasn't quite as detailed. He has given me a lot of ideas.

I did start to build my 52 many years ago, but due to lack of space i had to shelve it. Then over several years of moving and storage, it got badly damaged. I was lucky to get anotehr last year, and the old one will be handy for spare parts. For put me down for the Revell/Monogram kit.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Against my better judgement, having a Monogram B-36 in paint stage right now, I will join in with the Monogram 1/72 D.

Hey Bish,

Welcome to the build! Nice to hear your old BUFF will be partially resurrected, gosh knows that bone-yard devours them and never gives 'em back! No worries on 'not being ready' as there is no finish line here, we are all welcome to work at our own pace and trade BUFF STUFF knowledge.

Here's my Baby BUFF:

Wing spars:

Transparency control:

Flight crew and office:

There was an attempt at aviator's sunglasses for the pilot:

Currently in my "skyorama":

The fantasy bomb load now in the 'obsolete' bone-yard:

When I started building this beast, I didn't open up the secondary bomb bay door, and I'm not sure I can,

they may be welded to the rectangular box i installed for the bomb bay:

and

We'll see. I'm trying to take Russ's advice and build this as a 'Nam era D BUFF, so there may be bomb clips in my future. Mind you, I don't have any extra bombs, and the clips are just an idea right now....Here's a pic from Wright Patterson's D BUFF's bomb bay:

The inner set of doors are also closed.

Guys, id like to join the build. I have a B-52 idea that i want to build a special "CIA"  4 high bypass turbofan engine  "EB-52R" complete with a pair of d-21 drones on the wings. Does this sound ok to you guys?? If so, Im in. Would like some feedback from other as to "special sensors etc" . The mentioned bird is already 85% complete as a standard B-52H, but Id be rebuilding it as I go. Hit me up and tell me what you think..  As an aside, I save all my leftover B-52 parts and am always looking for more. Any leftover parts from the Group build Id like to buy, trade or whatever to get them, just please dont throw the leftovers out. NFN,

Allen

Now that sounds like a realy cool idea!  I saw a photo somewhere of that very palne.  Maybe it was an artist's rendition.  As for special sensors, I'd think the sky is the limit.  We are talking about the CIA here.

Yeah buffjock,

I googled 'old dog' and that's what I got. The bird your building is hard to source as it was only conceptual, I can't find an image of it yet, but I know I saw something a while back with 4 mounted turbofans, mind you, it was just a late model BUFF with new engines.

Update: I found a book with an EB-52:

Flight of the Old Dog

So I'm guessing that's the source, now I'm trying to find the book.

It's rainin' crater eggs:

Shissh Kabob...I found it:

So, that may be a Photoshopped image, but it gives us an idea of what it might look like.

Here's a real test platform:

That engine produces 40,000 lbs of thrust.....

That 4 engine was photoshopped. Second photo is of B52E 57-0119. There was talk and a study done on B-52 Re- engine in the early 90s. that was with the Roll Royce RB-211-535 series. There has never been a 4 engine BUFF Though there was one with 6 engines. Anyone know which one it was?? i have some pics....

Russ, I started my Bear H today along with the EB-52. Pics will be posted to Flikr in the next day ot so.

That is all, Basher Five-Two over and out....

Here's another reason I should've went into the Air Force.

A question from the uneducated, I know it's not a stupid question. What do you mean by " in the Buff"?

And since there is no time limit, sign me up. Don't know which kit, just that it will be 1 72 scale. Hmmm, it can go with my Gato sub lol

I'm not a fan of the modern jets, but I like the 52. Just thought. I could start a collection of Bombers The 17s, 24s, 25s, 26s, 29s, 36s, 52s. I know I'm missing a couple that never made it into the air. Anyhow, that would be one heck of a GB LOL

Thanks

Ken:

Way back when, someone called the B-52 a "Big Ugly Fat F*****", and that was translated by Boeing to read "Big Ugly Fat Fellow"

Welcome to the thread, and it is always a pleasure looking for a BUFF to build.

A relative splurged on me, and got me a 1/72 Skipjack for Christmas. What I asked for was the Gato, man, I can't get mad at a person who confuses the two!Smile
