Hi all. I posted this as its own separate thread in the aircraft forum and was referred to this group build thread to pick up a bit more info. Anyway, here's me story:
As I was going through my stash, I came across a Tamiya 1:48 Fw190 F8 kit. Having not built a Luftwaffe bird in some time, figured that this kit should make its way nearer to the top of the stash pile.
As I often do with kits that will be built up in the near future, I make a preliminary decision regarding the color scheme as well as beginning general research on the subject.
For the color scheme, I decided on painting up the bird in the tropical scheme that was used for planes of II Gruppe, SG4, stationed in northern Italy. That bit was simple enough. The part that is giving me the most difficulty is trying to figure out what, if any, significance there is to the color of the numbers on the side of the plane. The example on the paint guide that came with the kit lists this version of the plane as Black 10, II Gruppe, SG 4. I have also noticed that the outside of the box has the same plane scheme listed as Black 10, I Gruppe, SG 4., thus adding to my confusion.
I'm just wondering if there is some significance to colors of these numbers. I would also be interested if anyone has some links to resources related to this particular plane/unit.
Thanks for the help and info and, as always, Happy Modeling!
