I'm glad somebody will be building it! I started that thing about 5 years ago...did some detailing on the rotors only to find out after everything was glued and dried and while I was admiring the (scarce) detail that I added, I had put everything on backwards. Haven't touched it since. I love that bird though, used to want to fly em, so I can't wait to see what you do with it.

I got to fly in a CH-53D during the 1st Gulf War, and I was surprised at how smooth the flight was. I was expecting a really shaky ride, but it was really nice. And, in response to you can't wait to see what I do with the kit, well, same here!! This one has been sitting on the shelf since around 2008, so it's about time the box was opened again, and I got some plastic glued together on it.

Interesting. I didn't know Chesty got a second star. I thought he retired with one star. Great picture, though.

Last Duty station I served at before getting out in 1975 was NWS Yorktown, Yorktown Va. and we were the first groupe to occupy "Puller Hall" our new barracks. Damn thing lookes like a Holiday Inn! The honor was meeting Mrs Puller when she came to the "Hall" to donate some of the Generals momentos to be displayed in the main Hallway of the Barracks Guard and admin buildg. Good night Chesty... Where ever you are. OOORAH!

Hi all – I’d like to join if I may!

Devil Dawg beat me to the Academy CH-53 (I just built their CH-46 and it was an awesome kit) so instead I’ll start with a 1:48 Revell F4U Corsair. I may come up with something more by the time we get started.

Looking forward to it!

Hey, Kafziel - I don't think there is any restrictions on what you build. Just because I'm building a CH-53E doesn't mean that you can't. The More, The Merrier!! By the way, which version of the CH-46 did you build? I've got the CH-46D & CH-46E, plus an MH-53E Sea Dragon. My plan for the CH-46D is to build her up as Pedro at Cherry Point. I've gotten to fly in that one once, and I always wanted to build a model of her. I've taken MANY, MANY photos of her externally & internally just for that purpose. Just gotta find the right decals now. Would it be possible for you to post some photos of your CH-46?

Mine is a CH-46E from HMM-365 at New River, the squadron that transported my unit in Kosovo in 1999. I didn't do a build thread but there's a few pictures here:

cs.finescale.com/.../160282.aspx

It was a really fun build and the CH-53 is supposed to be just as good if not better. Maybe if I knock out the Corsair too quickly, I'll join you with a 53!

Great looking -46 you got there! I'll get you added with the Corsair...I second the motion for the -53 after the corsair ;)

Actually in a GB there is some benefit to a few people building the same model kit. You get to share solutions to problems that might come up during a build, bounce color ideas off of each other, etc.

I know, I know,,,,,,this from the guy that is doing the first ever Mk 79 napes in 1/72, lol

but, there really is more "strength in numbers" with some of the kits that are out there

Rex (got a good laugh at the Chesty "who is she?" photo)

I was there in 71', Plt-2017 then ITR at Pendleton then NAS Memphis for training and my first duty station was MCAAF Bogue Field.  Almost seems like it was only yesterday.

Well it looks like a good time to get cracking on my MAW collection so count me in with the Revell 1/48 Intruder for starters.

Josiah, I couldn't pass up the USMC. Could you please include me for a LVTP5A1 by AFV Club in 1/35. Thanks, Terry

I've provided a stock photo of the box art. I know theres a resin set available for the interior that would show it nicely with the ramp in the down position, maybe with a couple guys sitting on a bench would also be a nice touch. Terry

Sounds interesting. I should be able to build something for this GB later this year. i'm not sure on what exactly but It's definitely going to be something modern. Probably an aircraft...

Ok, Josiah. I am going to be doing a 1/72 Revell M-60 with reactive armor n 1st Gulf War scheme. I am also going to be doing an Dragon AMTRAC (modern) in 1/72. I think by the time this build starts I will be ready for some armor!

Josiah

Is it too late to throw my hat in the ring with a Hasegawa 1/72 F-4 and possibly a V-22 Osprey and/or an F4U Corsair?

I'll get you added Steve, also, I read and replied to your PM before I read this thread so disregard the part about telling me what you're building.
