Last blast, let's go out in a blaze of glory! Weekend Group Build the 2015 Edition.

Here is my Spitfire, finished at the 47 hour mark, one hour ago. I've photographed it with the Swedish version of the same kit that I built last week, and the unfinished one that I started last week too. I hope you like it.

2:20 PM PST and I'm calling this one done. I made a bonehead error last night which became compounded because I used what I did as a marker for one of the decals, which threw everything off. As a result, I didn't use all the decals, however, these new tool Airfix kits seem to have a zillion decals to put onto an itty-bitty airplane. It gets quite crowded in the long run. By late morning, the whole build became an exercise in frustration and as a result, things got very sloppy. Slow and steady from now on. (Or until the 2016 48-hour build.)

Notable for this build: I didn't break off any guns, pitots, or other fiddly pieces. My skills are improving.

Cat Daddy-nice job on the Sabre-what is your final opinion on the Vallejo Metal?

Both of you have planes that look like they took a lot longer than a weekend to build

Thanks for the positive comments. The Sabre looks better in the photos. The flaws I see are in the details. But I'm still learning and this was a great learning experience. I couldn't have done what I did this weekend three month ago.

I like the Valleho Metal. I think it would have served me better with more time to let the primer and the paint cure. It seemed a bit delicate in my rush to finish. I also need to airbrush "cleaner." I had a lot of dudt and fine dirt in the garage that got stuck to a wing, necessitating some sanding and touch-up. Maybe someday I'll try Alclad and I can truly compare.

The tentative end for this build was the first weekend of December.  However, with the big US Thanksgiving holiday this week, it will be the second weekend of December (the 11th-13th).  This will hopefully give those that can't build this weekend time to contemplate their stash and join those of us who have finished in modelling Valhalla.

No prob lostagain. I pulled out my ICM 1/72 Mig-29 as a size comparison for the Sukhoi T-50, the T-50 is a big aircraft.  Once again, Tamiya's spray cans have fooled me.  When I sprayed the top of the T-50, it went on so light that I thought I had the wrong color.  Over the last couple of days, it has darkened up to what medium Gray  should be. I should have the T-50 done this weekend, depending on what the family wants to do.  Maybe get the Cougar finished as well.  Might have to ask Santa to stop by Ikea on the way to my house this Christmas for a Billy bookcase with glass doors.  Buddy's used airplane lot on top of my TV stand is running out of space.

Well...  my venture into my first group build ended with two quarts of motor oil on my garage floor and a smashed Hasegawa Egg Plane!  I didnt make the first deadline because I spilt 2 quqrts of motor oil while changing the oil in my wifes vehicle.  As I was cleaning it up, the oil filter got knocked over and proceeded to roll out from under the car leaving a 10' trail of oil with it by the time I ran around the car and stopped it rolling.  BTW... Not a good time to find out Im out of kitty litter.  After it was all said and done, I lost 4 hours and couldn't make my schedule.  Second attempt to finish last weekend resulted in my mishandling the aircraft while smoothing the first coat of paint with my microfiber towel.  I dropped it, stood up then backed up into my chair, lost my balance and the final crescendo... the loud splintering crack of the plane as I stepped on it!  Man, this one just wasnt meant to be. Congrats on those that finished!  They look great! 

Oh no! not the egg plane!  I wanted to see that too.

For some reason Imageshack isn't uploading pictures correctly, so here is what I wanted to put up last night.

I got some painting done this morning (no pictures yet) and working on the little guys.

25 hours in and I'm at the weathering stage. I applied a black oil wash and will let that dry before I apply some pastels.

I went ahead and finished it. The wife is prepping for T-giving diner so I was up anyway.

Here is. Sorry to finish it before you blinked. It was a great little kit and would recommend it to anyone who wants a rail gun but doesn't have the room. Really nice detail and some PE which I did not install. The men and ammo are made from the rubbery plastic, but worked out OK.

Well, the third weekend is here.  I must say I apreciate all the kind comments on my failed attempt last weekend but I don't know if it will get finished.  The Tornado has already been in a few wars and has logged a few hours flying around the backyard.  Getting it back from my 9 year old nephew may prove more difficult than the kit was.  Time will tell. 

I have to say that the work completed so far in this group build is very nice.  Quite a diverse array of subjects as well.  As I was rummaging in the stash to choose this weekends build, my nephew raised his opinion that I should build something "without wings".  He then chose the kit for me........ a 1/35 Leopold.  I had to explain that this was not gonna happen in 48 hours, so be begrudgingly chose again........

So, at 9:00 PM I will start something completely out of my comfort zone.  A Trumpeter 1/35 SA-6.  I will post some pics. closer to the time, but for now I need to do a little research before I start, and I may need some of that burbon that I saw earlier to calm down enough to build my first set of single link tracks.

Here we go again!

Ok, it's 9.  Here I go again.  A Trumpeter SA-6 TEL.  I intend to do this in Iraqi paint and eventually set it in a dio later down the line.

Sorry guys, I've been super busy this week.  Finally, finally got everything cleared off my plate to focus on the 48 hr build!  Its 9:45 PM on the West Coast of the U.S. and I'm starting the Monogram M-8 Armored Car.   Says 1/35 on the box, but looks more like 1/32!

I saw a few previous posts that started with a pic that included some "liquid motivation"!!   I couldn't pass that up so here's my addition!  Lets see if this becomes a tradition! 

2:15 AM on Saturday morning and I'm calling it a night.  Managed to get the chassis done except for all the little details.  Started working on the turret, but need to get the main gun and interior painted before assembling.  Hopefully work will resume in a few hours.
