Thanks Gam,

I was thinking last night when I posed the question on just how fast this year went. I still can't believe it.

EXCELLENT!! I will go hrough my stash, and see what Japanese subjects I will take a whack at..... I always want to do multiples, but always fall short. Thanks for hosting, moderating, running the whole shabang!! Regards, Freddie from LI

To the Group Build, I would like to thank all of you folks, for sharing your modeling skills with us all. I have seen some really amazing, and creative work on this Group Build the past three years I have participated in it. Gamera, I would especially like to thank you for running this build....again. I know it can be a pain in the ass dealing with computers, and policing forum posts. I think if I had to pick the most interesting posting, Modelcrazy's beached A6M2-N "Rufe" has to be the one. MC, I love your work, it looks fabulous and the creative way you display your models, makes for very interesting viewing. A terrific job!! Once again, thanks for all your contributions everyone, and lets really ROCK number VI in 2017, and fill it's pages up with all kinds of Japanese inspired models! Gamera: I guess I will start by finishing the Kawasaki Ki-100 I had planned as a second build for number 5. I'm also thinking of either a Nakajima B5N "Kate", or really going crazy and tackling Tamiya's 1:32 A6M2....we'll see. To everyone, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, and lets go smell some glue!! (Not that way though) Best Regards Freddie from LI

Thanks Gamera: Should have used those cotton balls in the tail gear well on my P-51D.

Airbrushing the Kate has gone smoothly, for the most part. First color to go on was Tamiya XF 11 J.A. Green, took about three to four coats. Went to post shade that but couldn't find a good color, so I went over those areas with XF-11.

The bottom received Tamiya XF-76 Gray Green, this lighter color need four to five coats.

The kit comes with decal strips, but I though I'd try my hand at airbrushing them on. XF-76 was the closed match. I cut two strips of Tamiya tape to the width of the decal strips, placed them on in the right spot, and outlined them with Tamiya tape, then removed them.

Next is up airbrushing Orange Yellow on the leading edge.

Dan: Love how she's coming there, beautiful work on the paint. I have to ask though, I generally start with the bottom since it's normally the lighter colour and then spray the upper surfaces- though I can't argue with the results you've gotten there!

Freddie: Thanks for the vote of confidence! Looking forward to having you and all my FSM friends here for another great year!

What happened to me? My former wife died in California - kids living with her there. i was in China at the time. Had to scrap business there and return to home in Maine. then to California to pick up my 3 kids. former mother-in-law suing for custody. now in that fight in California. my captured and remarked Japanese Warhawk is in Maine. i may get to Maine after Christmas, but no chance at all of finishing the model in time for years end...

just goes to show that when you think you have time - you may not after all...

looking forward to returning to farm in maine with my kids and carrying on modeling

At long last here's a few pics of my Gekko, started at least. Since these were taken I've got the wings and horizontal stabs on and it's prepped for a light primer coat.

What with the Holidays fast approaching, I know I won't get much further, but I figured I'd better show that I had something to roll over into VI other than good intentions! There have been some really good builds here in the past year.

Yeah gee whiz Sibz, I thought I had a rough year back in 2014 with three car accidents and all (thankfully two of them fender benders). Hope 2017 turns out better for you. Though maybe you should just try to decompress after that train ride though hell.

Mike: Nice work there, love the instrument panels and how you detailed out the knobs and controls.

Love to have both of you in JGB VI, no rush to get anything done. I'll go ahead and put you guys down this weekend, if you can't get to them no big deal, no pressure.

Thanks Gamera: Yeah sometimes I'll start the bottom first, over the top. I feel that covering the plane in X-1 Black made me airbrush on one or two extra coats on both side. My next model I'll just stick with the panel lines.

Mike: Great paint work and detailing the cockpit.

This Hasegawa kit has been easy sailing, after the XF-76 Gray Green strips I masked up for the Orange Yellow strip on the leading edge. First I airbrushed X-2 White, then mixed X-6 Orange with X-8 Lemon Yellow. The mix was a bit bright and to much orange, so I then airbrushed XF-3 Flat Yellow.

Next was masking for XF-71 Cockpit green on the inside area of the canopy, to help with aligning the tape on the fuselage I taped on the closed canopy, and using the painted ones to cut the Tamiya tape to the right width.  When that was done I replaced the tape and cotton balls masking the openings.

It turned out great.

Following that I touched up with the areas with the airbrush using, XF 11 Green and XF 76 Gray Green.

The rest where done by hand.

Got everything sanded out and spotted in in white and gloss clear, ready for the decals in a couple of days on Betty.  Unmasked the front and rear greenhouses.  Even with the Eduard masks and carefully running a fresh #11 around the edges I have a ton of touch-up where it pulled paint.  Serves me right for letting it sit for a year and a half.  Plus not scuffing them after masking.

Once the decals are on, and flat cleared, just install the props, gear and antennas.  Unmask the rest of the glass and touch-up as necessary.

Pics when done, hopefully next w/e, as I have Saturday, Sunday and Monday off.  Got to go look at a '64 Comet Cyclone deck lid for a guy on either sat. or Mon., and that is a 200 mile + round trip.

Wayne: I'd love to have you in JGBVI, any of those sound cool. And got your message but the website is messed up on the Chrome browser I'm using here at work so I can't respond but yes I did get it.

GH: I hate it when masks take paint up. Get the same issues here since I leave them on too long, not that long but still too long. Looking forward to the photos. And good luck with the deck lid, hopefully with that long a drive it will be exactly what you need.

I grew up out here, where if you wanted a decent dinner you drove 80 miles each way.  No biggie, used to it.  Most of my BLM advisory meetings are 300 to 400 each way, 4 times a year.  40 and 75 each way to where I work gold claims.  Seem to get a lot of windshield time.

Edit***  had to order out another set of decals to get another pair of the biggest crosses in the set, need 4 of them for the fuselage and tail.  Will also give me another pair for the wings that I wont have to trim the white off of.    Grrrrr.   Got the 4 on that are right sized, man are they delicate. From Fantasy Printshop.  All of them came apart, but got them on OK.  4-5 days till I get the other set.

Thanks Gamera.

Goldhammer: Nothings more enjoyable then touching up pulled paint, looking forward to your pictures.

First off Happy New! Looks like I'm a day late Stick out tongue. I'm calling my Nakajima B5N2 Type 97 Kate finished. Decals on the top went down smooth, some on the bottom did not. Both side are flat coated, canopy, antenna wire propeller, torpedo where add earlier today. I skipped doing a panel wash, the flat coat did ligthen the colors some what. This is the first model I get to photography with my new Canon EF-S 24mm F/2.8 STM lens Cool.  I forgot to photograhy the bottom Embarrassed.

A specal thanks goes out to Gamera for hosting this group build.
