Ok, finally had time to take some pictures. Eventually, I'm going to put this on a nice base like Waynec did - that's why the commander is 'talking' toward the ground. But kinda out of steam at the moment. So tried out a whole bunch of techniques that I never did before, more PE, oil wash, pigments, tried my hand at better figure painting, added straps to the binoculars with tape, etc...

waynec AC is done. oil washes followed by scrubbing in some pastels. quick base which is ok but not great. did not spend a lot of time on it.

Great job on the armored car Wayne, I am impressed.
Никто не Забыт (No one is Forgotten)Ничто не Забыто (Nothing is Forgotten)
some progress, cleaned up the paint and added the green camo. Next are tools, details painting, followed by oil washes.
Hi Waikong,
Great detail for the scale, will watch with interest. Your eyes must be better than mine - the magnifiers are getting stronger each year.
Tony, looking forward to seeing the Puma done.
I do have a number of quarter scale armour kits, but they are a way down the build plan. This year has not seen much completed, so to get a sense of acheivement I did the weekend GB and did the Tamiya JS-2 kit. Just to share:
Good work on the Puma.
My build was stalled for a few weeks due to work. But was able to complete the tracks after some self-inflicted errors. But as a glutton for some PE punishment, decided to add little nuts to the fenders, especially the area where I had it fall off. As that would need some good weathering work.
I then used some solder to create the missing wiring conduit for the head lights.
So the build so far, next up will be reapply the base color and start on the camo. Then add the misc tools. Trying to find some interesting figures to go with the finish build to.
Here's a little more progress on the Puma.
Cheers
Tony
I'm just taking it one GB at a time.
Here's an update after another day. I've done most of the suspension. There is quite a lot of clean up in these complex parts. I've also joined the wheel halves. At the top right you can see the main reason why I'm closing it up, courtesy of the household mutt. I must have dropped it on the floor without realising, and she found it and had a good chew. Luckily it was an interior part and I can cover it easily enough.
I love the feeling of opening a new kit, the possibilities!
Here's the start to my Puma, from last night. Whilst I sprayed the interior white 'just in case', I don't plan to open the hatches on this one, so I haven't detailed out the interior at all.
Sure, looking forward to seeing your Puma.
Would be great if someone joins with the new JSDF tank too - not too many modern armor in 1/48 except for resin stuff, which are a little more than I want ot spend on a kit.
wow, time went by fast, Finally got some time on the bench. Gave the tiger an initail coat of desert yellow.
Started on the PE side skirts with some damage
Here they are primed and mounted
Painted Rust effects on the exhaust using Vallejo paints
Finally, heated the heat shields and formed to shape, the nice discoloration from actual heat and soot is actually pretty nice, lets see how much of it I can actually keep.
for some reason, the price for Tanya 1/48 kits are over 50% higher than their cost in Asia. if you don't mind waiting a few weeks to get them shipped directly from Japan, I have seen the crusader for under $20 which includes shipping via Amazon sellers
Thank you. I was thinking of selling off all my 1/35 and going to 1/48. However, I decided that 1/35 is challenging enough in size, and I got many kits at lesser prices then the 1/48's I've been checking out. I do want kits with less parts. That is one reason I'm laying off Dragon kits. I've been working on 1/35 Dragon Tiger I Late, Pz III H and the T-34 1941. The T-34 isn't as detailed, but I like the lower parts count. I just can't finish anything.
My ebay search of 1/48 was very limited, so it might be a bit before I land something.
Eric
Welcome to the GB. Take your time and have fun. No hurry at all, after a good start I havent been able to spend anytime in the last 2 weeks myself. Either way 1/48 armor is going to have way less pieces than a 1/35. Love to see your great skills transferred to a smaller scale.
Hello Waikong. I'm reallllyyyy going to try to do this. Things are slowing down a bit now for me. Would love to get an easy kit with a simple scheme etc. I'm thinking maybe a Tamiya Crusader if I can land one at a good price. I'm burnt out on German right now. Never done a quarter-scale armor before. I'll probably have to research a few to get an idea what I would like.
well, that was a fast build. looking nice.
waikong $25?!?!? That's quite a haul for only $25. Congrats. And yes, you do need another model sub-group interest. You NEED some 1/48 armor.

actually sold more than i bought. then blew it on 1/35 early soviet and finnish armor at squadron.
got the AC primed. decided to add all the fiddly stuff (tools, mirrors) before priming and just be careful handling. painting the tools will be amusing. i did leave off the spare fuel cans as they will be a different color. had to add some "filler" to the two turret vision blocks.
looks like color modulation and oil filters for effect. maybe some mud though i have an old SALADIN that needs a lot of mud. might be a better project.
First progress pics. Got the main body put together with the turrent. Started to add PE details. Clasps.
PE Screens and fire extinquisher on primed body
Nice metal barrel included in the lion roar set
just back from LHS swap/trade/sell meet. actually came home with less than i started. did pick up a Tamiya TIGER I DAK and a PANTHER G for $25 total. i really, really, really do not need another model sub-group interest.
Steve
Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

dont think, join!
I will run this for as long as there is interest, at least until End of year for sure even if I'm the only guy left. :)

Steve,
There seems to be a lot of choices out there in quater scale, and a lot of AM for them too.
Waikong,
How long do you plan to run this GB?
Edit: The Stug looks fantastic! That's what made me start checking eBay for quarter scale armor kits!
Bruce
On the bench: 1/48 Eduard MiG-21MF
1/35 Takom Merkava Mk.I
So this is the kit I'm building, one of the first kit that Tamiya used to revive this scale.
I also have this PE set, I'm usually not much for big aftermarket items, but the price on this was very reasonable, about $10 USD if I recall, includes side skirts, metal barrel, screens, and other items.
There is a review here and a comparison of the barrels http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/48/lionroar/la48001.htm
They also have similiar addon for the short barrel Stug and the T34.
Here's my stug-3 that I used the PE on, this was my first 1/48 armor kit
