Secret Santa GB 2016 !!!
Posted by BrandonK on Sunday, November 6, 2016 10:04 AM

Good greif, it's already that time of year again. SO, since time is already running out on getting this done in time, let's get this party started.

Sign up on this thread and include your desired build in a PM to me only please. I will tally the names and do a drawing to assign each member a secret Santa and they will get the desired kit and get it sent off in time for X-mas.

Dates:

Build will begin on January 1. 2017 and run till October 31, 2017.

Last day to sign up will be November 25, 2016. Names will be drawn and assigned the following day.

Have the gifts shipped to your recipient no later than December 19, 2016 so that it has time to arrive in time for X-mas day.

Remember to keep the kits you are looking for specific enough for you to get something you really do have a desire to build. Don't ask for 1/48 aircraft in hopes of getting a Cesna float plane. Ask for a general idea of what you would like, but be specific enough to narrow the results within your tastes. Keep in mind that money is tight for many members and that keeping the kits resonably priced should always be considered.

Here is a repost of the 2015 Secret Santa thread.

We want to have a GB where we can get as many builders from across the forums to join in and build a kit they were gifted by their Secret Santa.

The premise is you decide on a basic kind of kit, for instance someone may state 1/35 German armour, and another may say 1/48 US fighter plane, or 1/144 civilian airliner, or perhaps 1/35 attack helo, you get the idea. Keep the kit idea you desire to a type and scale, but not a particular kit. That way you just don't know what you'll get.

Secret Santas will be set up and you'll send your kit that you picked out to the recipient who will not know you sent it. We all open the kits on Xmas and that's when the build begins and it lasts about 10 months or so.

It's a way to celebrate the season AND it's a way for more of us to get to know members we might not otherwise meet. It's a great way to expand on our freindships and add more new builders to areas they may not have persued otherwise.

It'll be really fun and we want everyone to join in.

PM me with your scale and type of kit you would like to see and we'll add you to the list. Once we get near Thanksgiving we'll assign all the Santas and everyone has time to locate something that fits the bill. No one should spend more that $15-30 on a kit. Keep it simple, it's for fun.

Some of this is a repeat of what I already stated but it was less typing for me. lol !!

Last year we had 13 total and I believe we had some that didn't finish, but we'll have fun non the less. I am really excited to get this going.

I have to sadly admit, I was one who has not finished last years kit, it sits about 60% next to the bench. I could probably complete it as soon as I return after the first of the year. I just need to put on the small fiddly bits and then gloss coat the thing and then add the decals and another gloss coat.

I don't see any problem with having some carry over from the previous year. The point of this GB is the spirit of the season and watching those gifts come together. Personally, I would like to see them all done, so bringing over 2015 kits into the 2016 build will be perfectly acceptable.

The names have been assigned and PM's have been sent. If I miss anyone in the PM department let me know in a PM ASAP.

The sign up for the GB this year is now CLOSED.

ROLLOVERS from any build left over from last year's Secret Santa, regardless of progress, WILL be allowed. We want to see all those kits done.

Get your gifts ordered and sent to your giftee as soon as possible so everyone has their gift under the tree in time for X-Mas.

My gift arrived last night, delivered by an elf in blue USPS livery.  Our host let me know that Santa had not indicated if it was wrapped for the tree, so it will remain in the plain brown wrapper for another 3 weeks.  Will be fun and interesting to see what Santa selected.Gift

My giftee should be getting a delivery from an elf in brown come Monday.

I'm working really hard to get the gift from last year finished before the new kit arrives for this build. Last years kit was this Mig-23 in a red/black/light grey show aircraft scheme. I had hoped it was going to look amazing. I pulled it off the shelf the other night and hit it with a coat of Aqua Gloss and the red paint started running off into the grey and totally ruined the paintjob. I gave up on that scheme and will now be doing the other option for the kit in camo for the Polish Air Force. Fortunately, good ammonia based Windex made quick work of the rest of the paint and gave me a fresh canvas to start from. Here's a picture of the kit, as was before the red paint was added in the previous build attempt.

Tough break on the paint. But, for some reason I always think that the secondary paint work comes out better than expected in the end. I am looking forward to seeing the camo scheme.

My Secret Santa gift arrived in a little white truck driven by a portly little man (sans the beard)Stick out tongue

I will have to wait until after the first of January to find out what special gift I've received. I leave on Saturday to Australia and do not get back until after the New Year.

I think my secret Santa gift arrived today.  I genuinely couldn't think of any kit or accessory I had ordered.  I had a tough time explaining this to my wife as I tried to tell her I hadn't ordered anything ( truthfully this time..........I think).  I do believe she's heard the tale of the immaculate delivery before.

Even when I tell my wife I want to order something, tell her when I ordered it and when it will arrive, when it does arrive she asks "when did you order that?"Smile Dots
