This GB had a lot of interest early on and went well last year, but unfortunately it has rather fizzled this year. I blame myself for not being as active in building this year as I had planned. That being said I would love to see that interest return and I am considering extending the build for an additional 6 months to allow those who joined more time to build those awesome kits. Let me know how everyone feels regarding this.

BK

I'll join in with a 1/72 Revell Arado 196 and an RS Curtiss Hawk II with floats if this is extended. The Arado is started the Curtiss not. I could probably just squeeze in under the wire but an extra couple months would give me the confidence I need to join up. I want to break my pathetic streak with GBs so don't want to commit with too tight of a schedule.

I have had a terrible past two years with nothing completed and almost no time at all at the bench the past 12 months. My plate is clearing up and I'm itching to get back to building something.

I would like to join but just not sure if I’ll finish in time. Steve

Well, you will never know until you try. Welcome aboard. I too will be pushing it to get done by years end. We'll see how far we get.

BK

Alright then and thanks for piping me aboard Brandon. I think I"ll give the Mavis a go as that has the least amount of color differences. I"ll get some pictures of the kit contents posted this weekend as well as some progress shots.

Your Kingfisher is looking great Brandon.

Sorry i have not been able to get in on this one BK. I still have not been able to get hold of the kit i wanted and i have pushed it to one side.

Might be one for re doing in a few years.

Thanks Bish, I completely understand. No worries, I just didn't want anyone thinking that they were under some sort of gun to get going. I'll be lucky to get mine done by year's end.

Yes Sir I was referring to your builds. Very nice. There is just something about float planes and boats that I really like. Well done on all those kits, they are quite nice indeed.

BK,

I just ordered the Trumpeter 1/144 Kawanishi Type 97. It should be here in a week or so and I'll get on it to finish before the GB does. I'm thinking of putting it on a water base.

OH SNAP !! Steve, that is a very cool kit. On water with your skills is gonna be epic. And don't worry about the time frame, I'm leaning toward extending this till June.

Built the Heller "black border" Arado 196 kit c.1987, nice, one of my better 1980s efforts.

Work continues on the Chorosny Modelbud CANT Z.504 & Savoia-Marchetti S.78 floaters, they're among my most challenging builds so far this year if not the most.

The Z.504s engine pod is intergal to the center upper wing, wasn't difficult to glue it on the fuselage hull, S.78's engine pod however hangs on struts below center upper wing, it - the pod -  sits atop struts above the fuselage hull. A great deal of planning was necessary in executing the assembly work, by day's end I should have everything on the fuselage hull, once that's done the building work pace will pick up.

Aaronw, those are really cool kits. Welcome aboard, I am totally looking forward to seeing those come together. I love the Arado and I really need to add one to my stash. The Hawk is super cool as well and I think it is the first one I've seen built. Awesome sauce!

That's kinda what I had pictured in my mind. I can see here how any deviation in alignment would totally through off the upper wing alignment. Touchy section to work through. Looking at your photos I can see that you have nailed it though. Nice work.

Looking forward to seeing the Rufe come to life.

I finally got my busy stuff done this summer and have pushed all my other builds off to one side and I am focusing on getting this GB going. I have neglected it far too long.

Got started on the 109 W-1 the other day. I swear, though, there is more cleanup on this kit than on an all resin kit. Pic 1 for reference of flash, the rest are just the build so far.

That much flash makes me think it's an old Revell kit from the 60's. Looks like you got a handle on it though. I will have to look and see if I can't find a W kit for my stash. Nice work.

BK, all,

I received the Mavis yesterday and was excited to open er' up. Not a bad looking kit but a thought struck me, if I'm going to show this thing taking off the water then I need to lower the flaps, which means some surgery. So I need to put my man pants on and start cutting. And oh boy there's rigging.

Wow Steve, that does look like some surgery. Looks like it's one continuous flap. I think it will really make the kit POP when you do that though. This is really gonna be cool.

TJ, liking the look of that, and really impressed with the weathered metal look of that cart/dolly.

I didn't weather my cart like that and now that I see yours I wish I had. The chipping and bare metal really sells the look. Well done.

I've made some slow progress on the Kingfisher. With use of my technical drawings I can see that the kit float is indeed WAY off from where it should be and the resin part I am using will need complete new locations when mounting. I was expecting this but its amazing how far off the kit part is.

I also cut the cowling off so that I can open the flaps and begin the scratch up of the engine mount and firewall to support the Vector engine I have and plan to show off. This will be some work for sure. I need to get some more progress shots for you guys as I am nearly done with the firewall. More to come.

Wow, those are looking sweet. They look very nicely done. I've always thought that the pilot would be nervous having the engine right over your head. I wonder if that ever crossed the minds of those who flew those planes.
