Bobby, i have ordered from SB a few times and have had great service even across the little stretch of water.

Those old matchbox kits can have issues but still nice kits, i rather liked the Chinook i did a few years back. And i thnik thats the only option for a Vicopr tanker at the minute. Hopefully Airfix will follow the bomber variant with the k2.

Good to hear about SB.  I have heard a lot of good things about them.  Pretty excited to get something from them.

Boy you aren't joking when you say Matchbox has issues.  Stick out tongue  I actually thought this might be a quick build (other then waiting for the paint and decals) and I had even thought of doing the Vulcan I have (which I still might! Whistling), but after getting all the sub assemblies dont...woah!  Major fit issues.  Big gaps.  Parts that don't even come close to fitting properly.  Going to be some filling and sanding time.  LOL!

Here's a pic of the sub assemblies completed.  Now, time to start putting her together..and fill and sand, and fill and sand...LOL!

Thats a lot of plastic there Justin. I am guessing some of it is for the normal bomber variant and so un used, but i don't expect thats to much of the kit.

Al off to a good star here. My Canberra is coming along, pit is almost done and ready for fitting, so should have some pics up tonigt or tomorrow.

In that plastic in the center reside two more sprue trees of parts!

...and yes, my build area is a mess!  It is the central area for various projects for everyone in the family....there will be a mass cleaning, probably today, before I begin....lol

All i used was this paint convertor. You can download it or just use it. I find it really useful

http://www.paint4models.com/

You're still my hero!  LOL!  Thank you fo rthe link.  It's in my favorites now!

Right, so I have the decals coming from evilbay, the Vallejo Hemp and MM Light Gull Grey coming from SprueBrothers.  First time I've ordered from them!  Pretty excited about that.

Should have some new pics of the Victor up tonight.  Lots of fit issues!  But still a really fun kit so far.

Thanks again for the help!

You might be able to get them in the US, but i think your right, once painted up and in the pit, you won't notice any differance.

That sounds impressive. Your planning on a section of the dam as well i take it. May next year would be the 75th anniversary of the raid, that would be a nice target to go for.

I thought it migt be somthing like that given you said it would take a loing time. It sounds very ambiotious and i am looking forward to seeing it.

The best i can offer for WW2 RAF seated pilots are these from PJ productions.

As a 72nd dio building, figures are one thing that frustrates me. Even German figures, especially decent ground crew, are thin on the ground. And yep, some 72nd kits can surprise you in the parts count.

I wonder what shipping would be to get them across the pond!  Probably much more than their cost! Lol

And as for the actual size of the figures, I figure that any mistakes would be well hidden, since they will be in the cockpit...I'm even kicking around the idea of adding red interior lights, and some lights for the targeting system, along with German spotlights from the dam....I mean, since this month's finescale modeler as an article describing something similar.....you know, this is a very ambitious project...lol....

Did a check on my paint convertor and the best matches for Xtracolor in the tamiya range are XF 49 for the top, and XF 55 underneath. I know these won't be exact, but they are the closest matches i could find and a bit of fine tuning might be in order.

Model Master Light Gull Grey might be better underneath, and there armour sand for on top. Vallejo model air has the hemp but not the underside colour. I know you use Acrylics and those are the ones i looked for. Where i in your position, i would go for MM grey and vallejo hemp. Unless you can get Xtracrylix.

Bish, you are amazing!  I'm researching like crazy and you come up with this.  THANK YOU!!!  I agree..Vallejo and MM look like my go to paints.  I found the FS colours, but having a hard time cross referencing them.

Thank you so much mate!

Thank you Bish!

I see what you are saying about the colour.  I'm looking at some pics now and the Tornadoes are definately in the "pink" colour.  The Victors do seem to be a tanish type colour.  Having a bit of a time finding the colour call out for it.  Thanks in advance for any help.  Wink

Glad to have you on board Justin, is that a 72nd kit. I am sure you will be fine with that, and its not a problem if you don't finish by the end of the GB, you can keep posting your build until your done.

Whats the dio idea you have for this.

....you know what I'm thinking. ....

Actually, in case you didn't know what I was thinking, I want to do an in flight/mid mission scene, where the bomber has just released the dam buster bomb and it is skipping off the surface, headed right towards it's target dam....

It is a 1/72 kit.  I started getting into that scale, due to the relative easy of assembly,  but then I opened this box, and I think it has more parts than the Revellogram 1/48 b17!

I just ordered a pair of scale pilot figures from ebay, but they are luftwaffe pilots, not RAF pilots.  If anyone has any leads on where to get british pilots....I'm all ears!

I'm officially reporting for duty General Bish!

I finished the Yak-3's for the Secret Santa GB and now I can give my Victor 100% attention!  I'm excited to say I ordered the Scale Print set of decals from evilbay last night!  So I will be doing up my Victor as one of the tankers that was in Desert Storm.  I had an opportunity to see some of these beautiful planes up close and personal during the Storm.  I loved their nose art!  So now I just need to figure out what the "official" color those beauties were in.  I know it is not a regular tan.  So if anyone can help out with the color, I'd greatly appreciate it.  Also, I have decided to stray from my norm and go wheels up on this one!  Two reasons...1. No room on my shelves!  LOL! Embarrassed  2. I think I may hang her in my room...and do a 1/72 jet or 2 to have behind her getting refueled!

So here are the opening pics.

Did you say the same thing as I did when I saw the plastic?  WOAH!  Uhhhh, o.k.... Let's rock!  LOL!

Bobby

Looking forward to seeing this bad boy. My understanding is that the Victors were not repainted for the Gulf so they did not wear the same Pink scheme as other types. Though i know in some photo's it does look pink. This came from a guy on Brit modeller who was based at Marham and backed up by a few others. There is an ex RAF guy who was also based there in my model club, but he doesn't come regular. If he is there this month, i will ask him.

If he is correct, then that means they are in the same colour as my Canberra, which is Hemp on top and Light Aircraft Grey underneath. I know the Xtracolor codes but will try and find you some alternatives.

I got a couple of things.

1. I ordered some RB Productions Sutton QK harness from eBay for the Spit.

2. Took Gams advice and faxed in a order to Flightdeck Decals for the Zero.

I'll be working on both this weekend as well as starting the wrap-up of the Macchi.

I like the look of those RB harness, i need to get a set for my 24th Stuka. Sound slike you got everything sorted and we are off to a good start.

Yes, the nose is included in the kit, along with radar antennas, and cannons for the new nose..  Pretty bare bones kit as far as interior and cockpit.  No sidewall detail, and bare seats, and two crew figures.  Does have the stick or control wheel option, depending on which version you build.  Haven't looked at the IP yet.  Bomb bay and gear doors are molded with the nacelles and fuselage halves.   Have to cut them loose to display open.  Has the split canopy (with the side "bubbles", and the one piece one without the bubbles).

You get some good options with it that, will be looking forward to seeing that.

I haven't got got to it yet, but this photo of a Chipmunk over Berlin is what I intend for my build. I've got some decals for an aircraft in this scheme.

This photo came from the cover of a 1970s modelling magazine that is now defunct.

Cheers

Thats loks an interesting one Tony. I just did a google search useing the aircrafts code and it pops up everywhere. Seems it and a few other Chipmunks was used to spy on the Soviets.

Hey Bish....I think I am gonna throw my hat into the ring....a little eddie rickenbacker reference....on this group build!

I've had this idea for a dam busters dio, so I picked up the Revel of Germany Lancaster dam busters version.  I'm not sure I can complete it by the end date, but I should have the aircraft at least completed by then.  I didn't realize when I bought it, but it is a skill level 5....I've never seen anything higher than skill level three!  I may be in a bit over my head with this one! Lol

Pics to come.....

GH, is that a conversion your useing for the noseoran option with the kit. Don'tthink i have ever seen a Monogram Mossy before so will be looking forwardto that. And have to makesure you add it to Stik's thread when your done.

Grey does seem a bit odd, but i am no expert, so will be keen to hear what you find out.

Now you know why there are so many new kits of the "unmetionable"---they have a captive audiance with that guy, but suspect that was a pic from a show.

Got a couple of pics of the box and kit last night before I cut the nose off to fit the gun nose after fuselage is put together.  Won't get any further till after I get done with two other builds.

They call for gray interior rather than green, got to check on that before I fire up the AB.

Hey Steve, good to see you hit the ground running!

BTW: I've ordered from Flightdecs a bunch of times, I've found the best way is just to print off the order form and fax it to him if you have access to a machine. I think he runs the business out of a spare bedroom or something like that and I've been hit or miss contacting him with the phone or email.

I like that photo of the aircraft not to be named- you could replace 'Sharknado' with the 'Spitnado'!!!

I started on the Zero tonight. I didn't get much done but started putting the pit together. I'm trying to contact the guy who sells the Rising "Dying Sun" decals at Flightdecs by phone. I have contacted him via email but I would rather call hime to give him my CC number.

BTW Bish, a little something to give you nightmares Wink.
