When does the GB run to ?

aeroplanegripper, the GB is going to at least run till July but as long as there is still interest I'll keep it going till the end of the year.

Hey GT that's quite an assembly line there.

This center part took lots of dry fitting and a couple of DeWalt clamps to get it to sit evenly then I hit it with Plast I Weld in a Touch N Flow applicator. The two sharp tips broke off and two tiny white plastic sheet triangles were fitted and melted in place by the glue. This is the only part so far that required some work for a god fit.

The wells were painted RLM02 and more lines were added along with a grime wash. Click on the image for an extreme closeup.

The cannon shell ejector locations were dressed up in the wing interior otherwise it's just dead space when viewed thru the ammo ejection slots. Pieces of plastic sheet were cut and placed where the cannon would be.

I feared that paint would give a poor bonding surface to these parts eventually becoming loose inside the wing so they will pe painted black after assembly. Now there's something there intead od dead space.

The tiny hood scoop was drilled open

And so were the wing cannons and nose guns

Beginning to look like a Dora

Looks like kaos but I'm getting a lot done on the 6s.

Detail work looks great as always PJ. 

The 106 is such a great looking aircraft, looking forward to seeing them come on 68GT.

Hi Guys,

I haven't done much with the 190 but I did work a little on the seams and canopy, which I need to attach and mask and get to painting this bad boy.

Every little bit helps.  I was going to post some progress photos myself but figured it would look the same as my last post.

Have the fuselage together on the Eagle, just need to put the verticle fins on an do a couple of more seams and she'll be ready for primer.  This thing has more seams in it to fill than grandma's patchwork quilt.

Managed to break off one pitot tube (will have to stretch some sprue for a replacement) and one blade antenna, which the carpet monster missed eating, and got it back on.  Will put up a couple of pics next week after primer.

Is that the 1970's Eagle from Monogram? I built that many moons back and remember the seam issue.

I'm gonna add the fuel tank to my Dora and it's nice OOB but

I'm not happy how the plastic fuel lines look. First I drilled where the lines plug into the fuselage.

and bent my own out of soft wire. It needs some minor adjustments and will be glued after the paint goes on.

Looks like Miss Dora is ready for the paint shop. very soon

PJ, yeah, 1979 mold date, Revell boxing,with 2017 decals.  Assemblies won't be perfect fit and flow, but in grays with the decals shouldn't be too bad.

Doing her in flight in a slight climbing left turn, mounted on clear acrylic rod in the exhaust..  Going to the local Vet's home here in Oregon.  Decals are for 75th anniversary Oregon ANG bird, so it should fit in with the overall scheme in the home.

Count me in with a 1/72 Revell F-22 Raptor, please.  This will be my first model in about 15 years, not counting the kit I'm currently helping my son with.  This will be straight OOB to knock the dust off of my skills, and I could probably use some feedback.

Welcome back to the fold.  15 years, not much more than a little surface rust there.  I was away for 40, and I still find rust flakes everywhere I look on the bench, and more falling everytime I touch anything.

Was getting ready to start painting the Dora when I realized I forgot to add the missing rivets which is substantial. There are some flush rivets that need the jeweler's beading tool to make them but my small set is no where to be found so I ordered a better set on ebay. This will set me back some so to be continued soon. While looking for my missing beading set I found my Batman picture autographed by Adam West that I have been looking for months!

Here are my 3 Monogram F-106s after getting the fusalages together.  I notice the plastic on the newer kits reacted a little different than the older one while glueing the seams.  Things moved along quicker on the older kit.

I'm quite far behind with my Dora. I masked the canopy which is by far my least favorite thing to do and laid down a black base coat. Now I can get on with more fun things.

I added the RLM 76 light blue and 82 light green today, just need to apply the RLM 83 dark green tomorrow then I can work on the red underside.

Looking forward to seeing the 190 completed.  I have a set of EagleCals in 1/48 scale with the same paint scheme I want to get to.

Hey great job all around gents, lots of work going on.

I decided not to go plum loco with rivet counting on this one and will be adding just the basics to add a little more detail to the surface. It's a fine model but Hasegawa should have included at least some of the riveting.

Heck if Jerry Crandall built several of these and didn't do the riveting (at least on some) so that's good enough for me.

The Dora has a ton of riveting and I do mean a TON. I have an old Kookaburra Technical Publications  for the FW 190 and Ta 152 which has some really nice detailed aircraft diagrams showing all the riveting. It's easier to do this task prior to assembling the model so the next one will get ALL of the darn rivets.

I used my Verlinden scribing set for this one, taping down the soft metal ruler to use as a guide. Click on the image for a closeup.

The effect is subbtle and effective. The Micro Mark riveting set does a fine job using slight pressure as the wheel is rolled. I then hit the area with a 4,000 grit pad to knock down the raised plastic.

The flaps are set almost vertical and they just don't look right as is.

Using the UMM saw, I carefully made light cuts on the attachment points and bent them so the flaps would have a lighter angle.

I used some Plast I Weld on the bend points to weld shut the cuts and let them dry overnight. Now the angle is lesser and looks better.

The prop spinner was also missing the riveting

I carefully rolled the riveting tool on the spinner.

Now to do the rest of the wings and some riveting on the fuselage, again just the basics.

I’d like to jump into the GB with the HobbyBoss FW-190D. It’s been a pretty straight forward build to this point as can be seen in the following pics. Since this is a straight OOB build, I’m not adding anything extra. Since it doesn’t come with a pilot, I’m kind of dismayed there isn’t any seatbelts included. I also don’t see any advantage to the use of PE on the tiny parts of the cockpit. This was brush painted with MM acrylics. This was brush painted with MM acrylics. Appreciate any thoughts and tips for improvement.

Made some progress on the F-22, sort of.  Testing a technique I read about here to give the canopy a gold pearlescent tint.  I dipped my "canopy" in PFM with Jacquard Interference Gold Pearl EX pigment.

This red tape from HL is perfect for irregular surfaces specially on the hood.

The hood looks better now

The red tape was also used around the cowl ring

I wiped on some washable blue paint to make most of the details easier to see. I made sure not to go too deep to keep it subtle.

Slowly working the Dora, very slowly. I got the underside painted and now it's time for the decals....mabe next month LOL.

Thats some really nice progress on the 190!

I've stalled on the 6s and heading into the city in a little bit.  Going to the Intrepid with the Scouts for an overnight.  Should be interesting in more ways than one with 20 kids.

Hello everyone, well I have finally found some time to make a start on the Airfix Gloster Gladiator for this excellent GB. My intention, if I can, is to convert the kit into a Sea Gladiator that was on HMS Eagle with 813 Naval Air Squadron in the Med in 1940 on fleet defence.

Heres the kit

I made a little progress today, in starting as usual with the cockpit, though I dont think much will be able to be seen. The cockpit tub was put together and primed with Alclad Grey primer and microfiller and British Interior green added. A light wash of Flory Models Black clay wash was used to add depth. Small details were handpainted with Humbrol matt black and Silver. Panel frames were marked with silver pencil.

Ive also made a start on the Bristol Mercury engine, and added a Yahu IP under the front cowling to show some detail. I will add a Pavla Models resin seat as it is a bit better than the kit one.

Thats it for now will try to get some time in tomorrow to work on the engine and assemble the fuselage.

Cool subject Mark. I was looking at that kit just the other day.

I started on the underside stripes. Since the decals come in three sections tying a few lines together with carrier film I cut them individually to cut down on silvering. The problem is getting them straight, evenly separated and fight the optical illusion at the same time, I hope I got it, at least this half.

They are still a little wrinkly due to the setting solution.

Got a few hours in again today on the Gladiator. I have finally assembled the fuselage together and added the front cowling, which took a bit of persuasion as the IP was making the fit a little tight. There is a very slight gap line which will need a little filler but nothing too troublesome.

I also assembled the Bristol Mercury engine, which is a little delight to put together and I think is quite detailed. A mixture of Humbrol Gun Metal, copper and Alclad Aluminium.

The final work for the day was the masking on the Gladiator canopy,and you get a great choice of two varieties plus two more of the same if you want them open. Im going for a closed canopy for this kit. Photo is a bit blurred, the iphone 5 can only do so much!

Tomorrow after work, ill fill the seam line on the cowling and add the bottom (lower) wing and rear stabilisers.
