Hey DasBeav, the first page of the GB has been updated.

That is an excellent job on a difficult kit.  Glad someone made that tank!  Colors look great, and the tracks came out looking fantastic!

Thanks for being part of the GB.

Keep a look out this November for another armor GB.  Not sure if it will be German or British yet.

Doing decals on the Wildcat, so I will be back at the KV-1 soon....I swear!

That looks awesome man! Great color shading and details. It would look great in a dio, although it would take up a bit of room.    It's a land ship!

I finished the ICM T-35 last night and it turned out okay. Not the greatest kit in the world but I got it for $15 and have always wanted to build this tank. Just has a certain "Je ne sais quoi". It was not the easiest build in the world with its faults and my numerous self-inflicted mistakes. "Endeavor to Persevere" Lone Watie said. I wish I built dios because this would be the perfect tank for that. Still might do some more weathering and scratchbuild a new ladder which I over "battledamaged". Might also add a Cyrillic profanity on the side, which I don't think will get past the FSM censors, for realism. And yes that is a MG34 with a Lewis gun drum magazine. MGs that came with kit were not good.

The paint I used was VJ Model Air Russian Green 4BO.

Overall, a fun build of a big, ugly tank.

Thanks for letting me in this GB, D-man. Finally, gave me an excuse to do this kit. Not afraid of track links anymore.

Dwayne: Sharp work, and the T-34 ain't too shabby either. Yes

I've been told that the Soviets didn't have a great degree of quality control on the paint and almost any dark green would be suitable. Nevertheless; I really like what Dwayne used here.

T-34 with Russian Dark Olive.  Obviously, this tank has been weathered.

KV-1 with Faded Russian Dark Olive with no weathering:

I think both colors are spot on, and I really like the paint.  Follow their recommendations for thinner and poly additive, and I think you will be pleased.

Thanks for mentioning mission models. Now that I remember, I think I may have a mission models Russian green which I ordered awhile back when I got an assortment of mm paints. Otherwise, I may just get the olive green tamiya.

Which mm paint did you use? the 4bo or faded Russian green ones?

DasBeav: I am looking forward to seeing that T35, I’ve never seen a model of one before.

I am about ready to paint the IS2 I have been working on, what tamiya color would you all recommend for the Russian green on the is2? I stopped working on the is2 for awhile since my last post a month ago or longer, but I have just started again this past week and have finished the building. I will try to get some pictures up soon.

Hey Kien, I asked this very question in a different GB when doing a T-34.  The responses were that XF-58 Olive Green was probably the closest, although you could also go with XF-61 Dark Green.  I don't think the base color for Russian tanks changed much during the time between when the T-34 and the IS2 rolled out.

I actually ended up going with Mission Models paints for the build to try something new, and was pretty pleased.

Rust powder and alcohol cover really well. Like paint. I've never tried that. The worn bare steel spots look very convincing.

I have just about finished weathering the tracks. I brushed on a mixture of Vallejo's rust powder and alcohol:

This was too light so I sprayed Testors Glosscote and Tamiya TS-80 to darken it:

Finaly I brushed on some Vallejo dark steel powder to highlight the parts that would contact the ground:

The rest of the weathering will be done with the rest of the vehicle after painting.

DasBeav: That's some nice work. Looking forward to seeing her all together.

BTW: There was something in the water back then about sticking multiple turrets on stuff. Even the little US M2A2 had two turrets. It ended up with the nickname 'Mae West'...

Dwayne: She's lookin' good too. Big, brutal, and green just like a Russian tank should.

The T35 is looking good. The color shading and rust/chipping effects are very convincing. As for music being a problem perhaps you should try listening to Joy Division or even The Smiths while building. Smile

Thanks. Next time I paint I will try JD or the Smiths.More my style. Was Listening to Bryan Ferry and "Valley Girls" soundtrack and ABing was sad.

Not a whole lot of exciting progress to report....still working on the Wildcat, although I should be doing decals soon, so that is nearing an end.

I did get the external tanks, a couple of storage boxes, and extra tracks on.  Still need to add the tow cables.

Hope to be getting this done in the next month or so as the Wildcat winds down.

Nice!  The rust effect looks excellent.  Good job on what has to be a challenging build.

I am picturing the engineers designing this tank.  "A turret here, a turret there, a turret everywhere!"  Big Smile

I finally finished painting the upper hall and all of the turrets. I had some minor AB issues which were moisture or not listening to Bon Scotts ACDC. Either way, I am happy with the results. Tried my new VJ Rust and Chipping set from the "Store Which Shall Not Be Named". You can see them by the gun mantle? on the main turret, tow hooks, and side of secondary turret. They look better in person, a little more subtle than the picture. I am quite happy with the results and would recommend them for the price of $16(with 40% coupon).

Nice work on the T-62. I haven't got much done lately, but I did weather the tracks with some gun bluing

The top didn't come out quite as dark as I had hoped, but overall it gave it a nice patina that will serve as a good base for further weathering. I plan to get some paint on within a few days, but I have been having some trouble with the primer.

Hey Ernest, you put some real effort into that T-62, and it shows!  I especially like the added weld beads.  Looking forward to seeing paint on your builds!

DasB, the tracks look great!  Sounds like this was a good learning experience, and you will know what to expect the next time.

Sack, good to see you popping in.

I got some greeblies on the KV-1, not worth pictures yet.  Just have to square away the tow cables and tracks, then on to weathering.

Great stuff going on in the GB.  Thanks to all again for showing your work!

bufflehead

I think the T-62 is done.  Turret work is complete, but I don't really like the clunky kit DShK mg....I might steal one from another kit.  The resin turret took a lot more work than I anticipated to get it into shape.  Some of the kit parts needed to be reworked to fit and then those handrails...whew!  Added weld beads all over and some extras I had sitting around.

I need to do some work on a that T-34/85 (for another GB) and then all of them are going into the paint booth.

Ernest you already have some great AM on that T-62 so get another DsHK to match. Why stop now? That's my 2 cents. Looks great bud!

The T-62 is turning out great, Bufflehead! I can't wait to see it and others with some paint. You do awesome work.

I am almost finished with the tracks. They need touched up a little to hide my glue bombs and other small calamities. I swear a large Gorilla would be more adept at handling parts than I. I did learn much from my mistakes and also a blowdryer has more uses than just stylin' my "do".
