I do a lot of the same Eagle, I like building those kits more than the ones with 200+ parts. In fact, I'm going to do it again today, I've been looking forward to it all week.

I've only bumped into brittle plastic once too, I think it was a Dragon He 162. I feel it may have something to do with the storage conditions.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

That's how I got a stash of over 425 now.  My best score was about 4 years ago when I just happen to stumble apon an estate sale that was being held by the Vice President of IPMS for another officer from IPMS that had passed.  So many offers  couldn't refuse.  That was a BIG purchase!

I think you are correct...never know how these models were stored and the brittle plastic is a sure bet they were stored where it was hot.

Here are some progress pics of the Helldiver. I am almost done decaling and then doing a very light wash. At some point I decided I wanted to do an ocean base to have this guy flying over prepared to drop the torpedo so I got a little sidetracked. I have never done a base like this and I just need to paint the trim but I feel like it came out ok so far. I used some of that railroad hobby plaster mix and some cheap paint with a coat of futures. I am looking for some clear rod to use to mount the plane to the base and hope to have it done by the end of the weekend.

Well, I finished her up last night.  And yes...the decals were not optimal, but they worked..for now.  Might be some new ones in the future for this one.  LOL!

Overall a nice kit...just make sure you get one that was not stored in a hot garage or something like that.  LOL!  The brittle plastic was a challenge for sure, but the fit was very nice (except for the main canopy..it was off a bit on both sides), and the instructions were good, so a very nice build overall.  Here she is..thanks for looking!

Here she is with my growing collection of 1/72 builds...stop laughing Bish!!!  ;)

OK lads, since I wanted to treat myself with a relatively simple build after the JU 88 I took out thje 1/48 Mirage F-1 AZ . It will have a Pavla resin cockpit set and the South African AF "AZ" resin nose with laser range finder for the bomb-computer.

The AZ was used with great success by the SAAF against SWAPO forces aswell as Angolan forces from 1970's to early 90's

The AZ was usually armed with GP and cluster munitions but carried missles for self defence.

I am doing the late war "low viz" schemeof dark earth/dark green over PRU blue with "ghosted" insignea

Nice Pavla detail on the office and bang seat

I will have to cutt off the radar sight, there is a slight difference between the AZ that had the bomb computer instead of the air radar intercept.

I am cheat a little to make it into an AZ.

The IP that I have is for the French CT/CR, same as the SAAF CZ F-1 with the radar scope on the right.

The AZ as used by the SAAF didnt have this but had a moving map display mounted centrally on the top IP, I will have to modify the IP to the correct shape.

The office in the Mirage is black, now that presents me with a problem as it will hide all the lovely resin detail so I went for tamiya "rubber black"

It is not as "harsh" as normal matt black and I can still drybrush some areas and do a black pinwash in others to give some tonal difference.

Good choice!  Black does seem to wash out the fine details.

Seat, still needs some buckles to be painted

IMG_20180603_122540 by Theunis van Vuuren, on Flickr

For the exhaust I used alclad burnt iron and highlited the pettals with a graphite pencil to look "metal" the pix dont really reflect the look as well.

On the indise I did the same but added tamiya smoke to tone it down a little.

I'd like to enter with an Airfix 1/72 A-4 Skyhawk. I'm not sure whether it will be the USN or Argentinian scheme yet, I know they dropped unguided bombs during the Falklands war.

I'd just like to make sure it fits the theme of this GB.

Cheers

In the pattern: Scale Shipyard's 1/48 Balao Class Sub! leaning out the list...NOT! Ha, added to it again - Viper MkVii, 1/32 THUD & F-15J plus a weekend madness build!

Hey Theuns

Got some of the commissions cleared off the bench (sort of) and can start on my entry soon. Would like to switch to a 1/72 F-105D loaded with Mk. 117's in SEA camo. I see no one has a Thud for the GB so it will bring variety to the bunch.

EDIT: I just posted this and I get an error message saying the post is unavailable but it's there if I go thru the first page to the last.
