After I finiished adding different tones of Alclad I got to most of the decals on this weekend.  Some were OOB monogram decals and the main ones were a set of microscale decals I got back in 1983.  "Saggin Dragon"

Jack, that Chev looks sensational. What a brilliantly smooth finish. I love your choice of colour for it too.

I've updated the first page. Thank you for your contribution here, I'm glad you got it off the shelf and into the cabinet, it was well worth it.

This is the 12th model we've rescued from the Shelf of Dooooooom !

Cheers

Tony

Thanks jack, though to be fair it was only the building Schwimm and base, and the first 2 had already been started.

So the 57 Coke Chevy is all done. I was held up for two weeks as my airbrush broke and had to go back to the manufacturer in the middle of my gloss coats. I will only own Iwata moving forward. They have the best customer service you will ever experience and back their products.

I eventually hit it with one coat of alclad and then 4-5 thin coats of futures to get the nice level shine I wanted. I ran into major problems adding shell and had to rip out  the motor and do some cutting etc. All in all not a bad yard sale kit that was taking up space on the shelf. Thanks for letting me contribute and thank you to the host!

John the shades of aluminum look great on that F-80.

Bish that diorama looks really nice. I am embarrased you built that in less time than it has taken me to do a car! Really superb work here!

Bish - Interesting dio with the Tiger and Schwimmwagen. It looks convincing, and they're very good models individually. I'm really glad we helped you to get therse done, but also the other models that you mentioned as well. That's what this is all about.

Congratulations on finishing two outstanding pieces, and thank you for the contribution here.

We've now rescued 11 models from the Shelf of Doooooooom !!!

The first page is updated.

Cheers

John,

The contrast you have between both shades of aluminum looks just right to me. Just subtle enough. Great job!

Great job on the Tiger! Hard to believe it's your first. I agree with Steve, I like the tracks in the dirt.

Got some work done on my Monogram F-80.   added some different toned Alclad,  some of it is hard to see.

The movable surfaces are a lighter aluminum color.

It passes as Normandy for sure. I knew it couldn't just be a random scene, knowing you.. You probably know the names of the Tiger crew as well and where they came from in Germany! Haha. Yes

Cheers guys.

Griffin, it is meant to be Normandy. This vehicle is from the 101st SS heavy tank Detachment which went up against the Brits in France. There is a pic of this tank on the move and passing a Schwimm. I agree, the barn does look more Italian, but its what i had when i planned out the dio.

Great looking dio Bish. Not everything has a lot of detail. I like the tracks in the dirt. Yes

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That looks damn good bud. Smile The Tiger and Swagon camo and weathering thumbs up. That building is very cool! The roof is awesome. Great work. Looks like Italy more than France. Where would you say they are?

Time for me to finally wrap up this Tiger, after 10 years its about damn time. Not as much detail as i would normaly put into a dio, especially in the building, but i just wanted it done and it was a nice chance to practice painting and weathering in white.

So, here is my first completed Tiger I.

Tony, thanks for running this thread. Not only did i finish the Ostwind and Tiger but also a b-17 dio, there wasn't enough to do to it to make it worth entering, and i also managed to repair 2 very old builds that had been sat in boxes after being damaged. It really got me motivated. Thats 4 off my shelf of doom this year as i did a 251 eariler and now i only have one left.

I'll be looking forward to seeing what the rest of you are able to get off that dreaded shelf.

Nick,

Outstanding job on the Zero! The figure is excellent! And I agree with Griffin, you need a base to keep the outstanding plane with that excellent figure!

Yes I found another one in my shop that I stuffed away,   A old Monogram F-80.  I think this was my first attempt at Alclad and I got intimidated about adding other shades of metal on to it.    Well I want to finish it now and use some AM decals  for the Saggin Dragon.    Not sure when I got these decal but the tag was 1983 when they came into the shop!

John

John,

The Alclad you sprayed looks good. It will look that much better with the contast on panels. You may want to scan the decals before you try to use them, just incase they disintergrate.

Bish

I'm just about ready to start attaching everything to the base. When i built the Tiger, i had not yet started useing oils, pigmenst or any of the ready made products. I didn't want to do to much to this, so i just used some AK dust effects followed by some pigements lower down.

And i kept the Schwim the same.

For the building i wanted to go with white as shown on the box, but i wasn't sure about weathering. After some thought, i wnet for my old favorite, Raw Umber oil wash, and i am really pleased with the result. The inside is not very realistic, not wood roof support and as is usual for Verlinden buildings, no detail on the inside. This was a problem with the stable door. But i decided to just paint it white rather than try and paint the door on the flat surface, i just decided it was the least silly looking.

Just got to get these attached and finish the figures and calling it done.

Bish,

Wow! That Tiger looks spectacular! I can't wait to see this one done.

Nick, that Zero is top notch & thanks for all the WIP pictures.

Bish, your builds are always great tutorials and this one is no exception.

Tony, that's a beautiful AC, nice and bright.

Hope to back in here with my Gekko soon, meantime I'm enjoying all the great work being done!

That is lookign great Nick, I bet you're glad you got back to it.

I finished up my 1/200 Ansett Airbus A320 from Hasegawa, nice to get that one done too. Not my best work, but it's better than being on the shelf.

This is the 9th model rescued from the Shelf of Dooooooooom !

Cheers

Tony

Tony,

Great job on the A320! The paint really turn out smooth, and white is so hard to do well.

Tony that Airbus looks great. Unquestionably better than being on the Self of Dooooom.

Bish how do you get so much high quality work done so fast?? I feel like a slacker! That's going to be an excellent scene, I have a feeling. That building is really cool.

Nick that Zero is excellent and I love the figure. It needs a base, man. IMO

the pilot looks great,  thats one thing I've never tried to do is figures, not in my basket of talents.

I had to put the decals in the window for a couple of weeks to get rid of the yellowing.  Now I'll have to coat them woth micro scale decal stuff to make sure they don't fall apart.
