Bakster> He didn't seem to have too high an opinion of Neil Armstrong's piloting skills after getting stuck in the mud. Wink

The BBC Worldwide produced a documentary (film) called Rocketmen. They used archival footage that explored the American space program, from the Mercury program through Gemini, through the Space Shuttle Columbia Disaster. I recently viewed it on Netflix; I loved it! If you have not seen it, and have access to it, watch it.

Gary, the way I look at GB's is if anyone finishes a build, besides myself, then it's a success. A lot more fun with everybody but it looks like it's going to be fine.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Steve> It's okay!  Failure is not an option!  Wink

We'll just try to keep things moving along and interesting at the same time. Smile

In that regard, if anyone has some interesting photos they have personally taken of space subjects over the years, I encourage them to post them for all to see.

I have some photos I took of the Apollo moon landings (from the TV).  I need to get them scanned in.  They're pretty blurry, but seeing that "Live From the Moon" caption certainly makes them special to me!

Houston, TX - Johnson Space Center, Spring 2013.  The building to the left houses the Saturn V.

Mach>  Those are really great!  I will say that if you actually took the photo of those "seven" guys, then you have just stepped up to awesome! Smile

Another "old" photo taken in 1973-74 (my memory is shot).  I believe this was the lunar training simulator they used back in the day.  Huntsville, Marshall Space Flight Center.

Taken with an old Polaroid Instamatic (remember those?)

Thanks G! And that lifting body is awesome!

Only thing is the last thing I need right now is to buy anything else. I was looking at Tigerman's post on the armour forum for Dragon's 'End of Summer' sale and they have two nice shuttle kits listed for $29.95. If I only had the time to build some of this stuff...

It's enough to make you weep...  Crying

But I have a ton of old space models that need refurbishing, so...

But the local hobby shop has an old Monogram/Revell B-52/X-15 kit that I'm eyeing...

Gamera> Thanks for posting those!  Great photos!

Apparently not much changed for the LM except for a fresh paint job!  Those two astronaut figures probably didn't stay out in the wind and rain long.  Big Smile

When I was at the Marshall Spaceflight Center, I remember Miss Baker was still alive and in an enclosure at the visitor's center.  Seems like there was another monkey there with her at the time, but memory escapes me.

Meanwhile, here's another of the early photos.  Wonder if you've got one like this?

Really great photos!

And yes, I did take the photo of the Original 7! A photo of a photo.

I know, it doesn't count, but it's just so cool!

Gary, I did take a bunch of photos of the 'rocket garden'. Not sure I have any from the same angle, I'll look around when I get a chance.

Great pictures G and everybody. I have some nice pics from Houston and the Cape on film somewhere. I visited before phones had caneras, in fact before you could put one in your pocket.Huh?

We have that in common, MC. At the time of my visit, I was shooting slide film on a Canon AE-1. It was my first camera and what a treat.

Again, impressive pics, guys.

I'll overlook that blatant disregard of the rules... (because it is cool!). Big Smile

Gamera> No rush!  I figure the rocket park has changed a lot.  I was just wondering what it looked like when you were there.

Real G>  Some really neat photos!  I forgot about the X-38.  Another casualty of the space program budget cuts I believe.

And a couple of more from the early 70s at Huntsville:

Moon rock from Apollo 15, I believe.

Apollo spacesuit.

Here are some photos of the (faux) X-24A and (real) X-24B at the Air Force Museum in Dayton.  For those in the know, the X-24B was built from the X-24A, thus the "X-24A" had to be modified from a SV-5J, a jet powered version of the X-24 that was never flown.

X-24A:

https://flic.kr/p/2b8r7M3] X-24A-01 by N.T. Izumi, on Flickr

https://flic.kr/p/28rQ615] X-24A-02 by N.T. Izumi, on Flickr

X-24B:

https://flic.kr/p/2b8r7nf] X-24B-01 by N.T. Izumi, on Flickr

https://flic.kr/p/28rQ5sm] X-24B-02 by N.T. Izumi, on Flickr

PFJN, you brave man you, I have more "crawl-around" photos of the X-24B if you are interested.  I hope you can beat that Mach-Poo kit into submission!  Personally, I think starting off with the Eagles Talon vac would save you a lot of headache!

Just two weeks till blast-off.  Time for me to dig out parts and start getting things ready.

I have to figure out how I'm going to build the base for the Apollo model (really the top of the S-IVB).

Hope everyone is doing well and have their last will and testaments completed. Big Smile

Ditto

Pretty much set. I’m just trying to decide on a few details myself.

And a will won’t be necessary. I’ve already decided that im taking it with me, anyways.
