The model box has been moved from the stash to the desk.  

My bench is cleaned off at the moment, but I need something to do for the next week and a half, lol.  I have a pretty basic kit of a Bearcat I'm thinking of doing in the mean time.  The kiddo is on Thanksgiving break, so I'll be home all day for the next five days.

A dumb question, but are there some instructions on posting pics for this site? I would like to post some of my gooney bird kit.

Not sure how much help I can be, but you have to use a photo sharing site.  I use Imgur.com.  I just upload pics to my account, and then click on the picture I want to put on here, it will bring up the picture, and a list of codes next to the picture.  I use the one labeled "BB Code"  Copy the link, and then paste it in your reply.  Hope that helps!

It will vary depending on the image hosting site you choose.  Some, such as Flickr, are not as intuitive as Imgur that Keyda uses.  Pictures cannot be stored on the FSM site, so you have to use a second site to store your images.  Then they can be linked here.

My stuff arrived and while not everything is unloaded I did get far enough in to dig out my “Gooney.”
OK, well I signed up for the Group Build after all my models were boxed up for the move.  And, to be fair my “Gooney” has been in the stash for a little while.  I forgot what I had already acquired as far as AM goes in preparation to build this kit. 
In the box was Eduard’s and Bilek’s PE sets along with masks, resin props, wheels, intakes and exhausts.  A nice surprise was a resin BT-67 conversion set which I forgot about.  That will get put away for another build.  Only item I’m waiting on now is the Airwave PE set, the additional Eduard and Bilek sets will follow the conversion bits back into the stash.
Still need to dig out/assemble desks, tools and supplies to get this thing – along with my other WIP kits – on the hobby desk.  If everything goes well I should be all set up to start building on the start date.

Has anyone seen the Turkish Airlines ad?

deattilio, It's always fun finding stuff you forgot you bought!  I seem to do that a lot with paint brushes.  I buy a pack thinking I don't have any, and land up with 5 packs of them, lol.

Picked these up today at the local hobby store.  I only plan on using the national insignia.  I have masks to paint them on, but I figured decals would be much easier! 

I may even be able to use the 7 and just have to paint the W.  Probably the first time in my life I actually want December to hurry up and get here!

 

I knew there had to be decals! Where did you find them? I've been looking forever just for the "7". The "W" is another matter of finding. 

If my memory served me right, I believe there is a smaller number 7 somewhere on Whiskey 7 (the nose perhaps?)

Found them at Ace Hobby here in the Falls.  He's got a lot of "older" stuff there.  Don't recall if there was another set of them or not.  He's got binders full of decal sheets.  I picked up the sheets for the national insignia, figured it was easier than painting them on.  The 7 being in there was just a bonus to me, along with enough numbers to do her tail number, individually, but that's fine by me.  Yea she's got a few 37's on her.

One on the side of the fuselage that could probably be best replicated by brush painting it on.

Wishing I had a few more interior pics.  I'm getting a bit nervous as the start date closes in about being able to accomplish this feat I've put in front of myself, lol.  I am going to have to find a balance between perfection and close enough!  Otherwise I'm going to drive myself insane with the smallest of details.  I only have one picture(swore I had more) of the inside towards the tail.  I think the door that is supposed to be there is missing, but I can't be for sure, as there were people standing there.  I would drive out to the museum if I could, but finances are really tight right now.

I finally purchased my project for this build today. I will probably start thing in January to coinside with Bish's Airfix build. I will be marking it in the BOAC camo colors mainly because I really am not comfortable with NMFs

modelcrazy, I hear ya.  I've only tried one NMF, and I did it with metalizer paint.  Doesn't really look the part.  I think it's great for smaller pieces, like the exhaust and what not, but not the entire plane.  That's the big part of the reason I haven't done the B-17 Madras Maiden yet.  Most of the plane is NMF. 

Yeah, I seem to have lost my touch with Alclad and am a little intimidated with metal foil.

I am wondering what finish makes a good natural aluminum for airline ships? I am a little intimidated by alclad but it looks nice! 

Also not sure where I can airbrush this stuff without a spray booth. If I use my garage, will it paint the interior silver? The only other place to spray is outside with wind and blowing sand. Hmmmmm

Also there is a big difference in NMF with a hard working military bird and and a airline ship.

As a kid when we climbed up the steps to a airliner, I could always see my face in the polished aluminum.

I haven't tried Alclad yet, not sure if I will work up the courage to give it a shot or not.  I've heard it's finicky.  I can also see myself getting frustrated with foil, lol.  JohnnyK makes it look easy though! 

B-36Andy, I've only ever used the Metalizer paints from Model Master, and that is certainly not the finish you're after.  I've never used the Alclad, but if I ever do I'll let you know the results.

Alclad is touchy stuff. You HAVE to have an almost perfect fill and prep, spray a gloss black base then spray the Alclad. It goes through the AB rather quickly, much faster the enamel or acrylic. I've never had a problem with overspray, it dries very quickly and I wouldn't try it outside in windy conditions.

Metal foil looks very real if done properly, I just have never had the guts to lay down the money needed to give it a try. I'm going to have to try it one day though. Maybe I'll have to get an early liner (DC4-8, Convair, Comet) and give it a try.

I'm a big fan of alclad.  True you have to have very good surface prep and gloss black base, other than that it sprays nice right out of the bottle.  I tried the chrome on a couple spinners and looked promising, despite my lack of prep.  I mostly use al101, aluminum for military BMF.  

Just don't use Alclad Gloss black for your base. Use ordinary gloss black paint instead.

modelcrazy, Money is always an issue with me.  I just find I would rather fork out the cash elsewhere than invest in something I'm not sure I'll like, lol. 

keavdog, I think my local hobby store has some of that, but I can guarentee that it's been sitting around on the shelf for years, I've never purchased it cause it's a bit pricey, and I just don't know if it would be any good from sitting so long.  I have shook the bottles a few times, and they seem okay.

BlackSheep, That's not the first time I've heard that, lol.  I'll have to bite the bullet and give it a try one of these days.  Everyone has to find their own method that they like I suppose.

I heard good things about the kit.  Hope it will live up to expectations.  I'm waiting for the 1/32nd scale version...

It's nice to open the box and be surprised once in a while, lol.  Looks nice.

I definitely couldn't afford one!  But I had so much trouble with the last two 1/72nd scale builds, I kinda hate tackling another one.  That's why I'm building an HO scale version! Not as much detail to worry about.

Despite having small women hands, I still have difficulty with smaller scale stuff.  The majority of my stuff is 1/48 & 1/72.  I have managed a few 1/144, but the smallest one being a B-58 Hustler.  If I was going to get anything as big as a 1/32 C-47 I would have to just get it radio controlled, so I could fly it around!  I've been eye balling one, just don't have the cash.
