Gamera

I am going to try to finish something for my own group build next year. But I can't decide what, so what the hey, I'm going to let you guys vote. Heaven help me...

1). Aoshima Mechagodzilla. No friggin' clue what scale. It's in my private warehouse with HobbyLink Japan. Will be getting it sometime early next year.

2). Fujima 1/144th Nakajima G10n Fugaku America bomber.

3). FineMolds 1/35th Type 89 medium tank.

4). Nissan 1/32nd '89 Skyline police cruiser with police lady figure. I'm hoping to work this somewhere in with an early '90s JGSDF MBT.

5). Hasegawa 1/48th Mitsubishi Zero 22. Can't help but stick a Zero in there somewhere.

Runner up- was going to list this but going to save it for ModelCrazy's Japanese Navy GB. Steve, did you set a date for this yet?

Hands down MechaGodzilla! Nothing says Japan more than a 50M monster smashing Tokyo!

Also, where did you get him?

And I was looking at that Type 89 too, but, ha, I haven't even finished the Type 4.

Hey Bruce thanks!

So one vote for the Zero and one for Mechagodzilla!

I picked mine up from HobbyLink Japan, seems they don't make this one anymore- but the upgraded one is available. The first version is from 'Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla' and the second from 'Tokyo S.O.S.' I think the second is a little cooler, I probably should have waited for it.

Cliff,

Freetime Hobbies has your Mecha in stock. Here

I was hoping no one would have it in stock! LOL! All the kits on eBay are way expensive. And the SOS version does look cooler!

Hey, can you add a 1/12 Tamiya Yamaha YZR-M1 to my list of builds? I'm going to cross over this build from the Motorcycle GB if that is OK? And I'll be starting in January. I'll finish the sub later this year.

Bruce: Yeah, I know what you mean, not a cheap kit by any means. But it's pretty big and has lots of articulation so I suppose it's worth it. Or so I tell myself.

Just put down the bike, very cool I love seeing something a little different.

Gamera, that Mecha Godzilla is gabonkers!!!

Wouldn't it be cool if one of the Japanese kit makers did the current style Gamera in plastic?  Stick out tongue  A modern take on Zigura (mecha shark) or Bairas (banana head space squid) would be neat as well!

Well, I do have vinyl kits by Tsukuda of the new Gammy and Irys. And a pretty good recast of Legion, didn't know it was a recast when I ordered it off Ebay. Sad

I'd love to see a kit of Zigura and Bairas. Even more so Guiron, can't go wrong with a kaiju with a ginsu knife head that shoots shuriken out of the sides of his nose..... Indifferent

Well, we're open!!!

Happy New Year everyone! The upcoming Chinese New Year in Feb. is the year of the pig. Hopefully I can turn out a few pigs this year.

Guys, I do need a deciding vote on the Zero vs. Mechagodzilla poll? Wink

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Cliff, I vote for the Mechagodzilla as it's not something usually seen.

Happy New Year everyone!

Thanks Jack! Mechagodzilla is still in my private HLJ warehouse in Japan but I'll start him when my order gets here. Probably be late this month.

Gamera,

With that description of Guiron, I think you are ready for a career in advertising or selling movie ideas to Hollywood execs!

Bsyamato! It's good to see you again, can't start a Japanese Group Build without you.

Guess it's Mechagodzilla, most of the order is in so I'm going to give HLJ the go ahead to ship him. Hopefully I'll have him in a week or two.

The police car is a pretty nice model though a bit simple. It's 1/32nd not the 1/24th or 1/25th you see most car models so it's a bit small. I'll see about posting some sprue shots if you want to see what's inside the box.

The police lady is separate- also 1/32nd from Aurora Models Japan.

Just came across this thread. If you all don’t mind, I’d love to participate in this group build! Seeing as how I’m currently working on a Tamiya 1/48 A6M5 Zero anyway. It’s currently less than 10% done.

I am going to have my Zero with markings as seen in the movie ‘Eien No Zero’ (The Eternal Zero) which I thought was pretty good. The lead character, an IJN pilot, though staunchly against the idea of the kamikaze program, finally succumbed to the depression of it all, and volunteered for a kamikaze mission.

I’m thinking of doing up my Zero in flight pose, but that will depend on how the pilot looks after I’m done painting him Stick out tongue

Now I just need to figure out all these image posting stuff Dunce

Big fan of 'The Eternal Zero'. I picked it up a few years ago and have to put it out and watch it every few months.

I'm not good with explaining things but there are a few threads on how to post stuff around here.

I know this does not qualify for this GB as I built it the end of last year, but I still wanted to show it (if you don't mind). It is a rather old Bandai kit from the late 70's. It lacked any fine details so I scratch built much of the cockpit, wheel wells, around the engine, and part of the gun bay. Hope you enjoy it. The plane is a Shinden Kai interceptor....

PS: Lots of nice and interesting builds coming from this thread. Keep it up everyone!

Ben: Oh wow love her! Is that the 1/24th scale kit? Love the interior detail and chipping on the paint. Thanks for sharing!!! Btw if you want to join us you can jump in anytime this year.

Bsyamato: Very cool entry, looking forward to seeing you work on her. And the Jake of course is welcome.

Here's the photos of the patrol car kit:

She's only about 135mm long:

Didn't have any Euro coins for reference so I ended up using an American penny and an old French half-franc coin. The tires are about 18mm in diameter:

Step 1: Cockpit

Just about done Big Smile

Painted with Tamiya acrylics and enamels, base coat in flat black followed by cockpit colors. Did very light Smileweathering, mainly bit of dry brushing and washes using Tamiya’s panel liners.

Struggled with the instrument decals. Placement wasn’t as good as I would like, but was concerned about tearing the decals with too much moving around.

Moving on to step 2: engine, cowling and assembling the fuselage

Hi Ben

Great Shinden Kai! Yes Love the chipped paint effect you did along the panel lines and canopy frame. Still learning this chipped paint technique.

You scratch built that engine??!! Surprise Wow!!!
