This afternoon I'm to a point I can post some pictures. I finished step 1 of my egg beater chopper.

Picture of box and sprue.

The cockpit parts

Primed

A few shots after painting

Fun build so far.  After I assembled the cockpit I wondered why I did so before painting. Makes life a little harder than it needs to be.  Oops.  Oh well.

Everyone else's work looks great.  You guys set the bar pretty high. Thanks for letting me play along.

I started the Blue Impulse. The fit is great as usual with just a few tiny seams to fill. It comes in a two tone scheme which Ill be repainting.

Cool work so far! Since the Loach is egg-shaped to start in real life, it'll be interesting to see how that translates to an 'egg' model.Big Smile

Will you be doing a military scheme...or going all 'Magnum' on it?

Yep.  Going all Magnum.  I'm taking Gamera's suggestion.  Some brown paint was delivered last week but it's not the right color.  Jeff Bezos is delivering the right color Wednesday.

The 'egghead' version of the cast approves of your choice...

First of the two "cats" done.  Got the Tiger decaled and dull coated this morning.

What kind of self respecting Tiger would be caught without it's stripes?  Decided to have a little fun with it.

And now getting a start on the second of the kittys...The Panther, more twisted fun on the way.......Hmm

This is a great GB, appreciate you hosting Cliff, your choice for the front page.

Great to see the 'heavy metal' contingent on the field!

Goldhammer, that's one litter-kicking Kitty you've got there! (Note how I resisted the impulse to say it's 'purrr-fect'...?) My first thought was 'TigerMeet' schemes for AV's! Really a great effect.

Gamera, your pair looks impressive as well. (Somehow the Stuart looks much more imposing in a foreshortened 'egg' format; maybe it just makes the gun look bigger!) But the Chi-Ha is the jewel, all lethal-looking and 'jungly.' Well done on both!

Goldhammer: As long as you're happy I'm happy! Looking forward to both the Panther and the Sherman then!

And thanks guys. As I think Greg said before the overall shape of the Stuart just works with the 'egg' shape better. I wonder that Fujimi didn't try the Type 95 Ha-Go light tank, it seems it would fit with the egg motif better than the Type 97 to me.

Alright guys/gals, I need to phone a friend...

The time is coming where the chopper needs to be "Magnumized".  I need to paint the fuselage.  I'd like to share my plan of attack and get some feedback before I start.

My plan is to prime with either tamiya rattle can or tamiya liquid surface primer. They're both grey, it's what I have on hand.

I'm under the impression that yellow should be the first color and to paint the entire chopper.  Once dry, mask over the yellow where I want yellow stripes.  Next, paint over the entire chopper with orange.  When the orange is dry, add more mask over where the orange areas will be.  After orange is masked, add brown last (last before clear and decals, that is... I'm sure I'll have questions about that later).

A couple of my concerns are having too many layers of paint, yet I'm not sure having yellow under only some of the orange is a great idea- same with orange under only part of the brown. I also wonder if grey instead of white primer may spoil my egg.

My apologies for not posting this under the paint section but I'm sure there is plenty of know- how here to get some valuable feedback. Any thoughts?

Thank you for the help

T e d

Oh, I'll be using tamiya tape and this is the paint I chose (no, this is not a tamiya commercial- just trying to keep everything in the same family):

Prime with white, since yellow and orange have weak covering capability.  I would lay on the yellow overall like you planned to get a good color base.  The orange will be helped a lot by the yellow, so you should not have to lay it on very heavily.  And the brown will easily cover the other colors, so you should not have excessive paint buildup.

I wonder if anyone makes a deformed Ferrari 308?  What a classic shape!

Thanks Bish!

Ted: I'd go with Real G's advice there. Yellow and orange are almost impossible to cover anything beyond white with. Don't ask me, I found it out that five-six coats of yellow STILL won't cover a dark green years ago...

It is a wonder no ones done a Ferrari 308 like that yet. I looked around when I went back to watching the show and it seems that it's only been issued in the Magnum P.I. box despite being just a generic 308 series car. A deformed version seems like would sell pretty well!

Thanks for the advice guys.

It's actually a nice day in my neck of the woods today so i knocked off of work an hour early and stopped by the hobby lobby. They actually had white tamiya primer in stock so I snatched it up.

I'm hoping to get yellow down this extended holiday weekend.

Thanks again. Yes
