Although it's still a year and half away, if things don't start panning out financially......

A little more last night. I completed the base painting, next is the touch up on the deck fittings and other items such as the CIWS, flight deck/bow white stripes, etc.

While the paint colors used were quite diffrent, the pics just don't reflect that. I believe it's the lighting.

After working the Perry most of the evening, I completed all I wanted to do for the day and am waiting for the Solv-a-Set to finish it's work. Next will be the rigging, anchor chain, waterbase, weathering and crew.

I just found a video on the Charger from the F&F movie. It was done by the guy who worked on the cars. There is a wealth of info in this video, hope it helps.

When MC gets in the mood, he's like a dog with a bone, just keeps chewing awayBig SmileBow Down.

Finally getting a start on sticking bits on the pit walls and floor on the Myrt.  Should have those ready for paint by Friday, after a night at the club night.

Thanks guys.

I believe I have completed her except for the base, crew, helo and RHIB (which I ordered a more detailed one from Shapeways).

I should be able to start on the base tonight. Not looking forward to painting the crew.

It looks like you just pulled it out of the water and photographed it. Fantastic work, Steve.

Thanks BK and Chad,

I started the base, so here's what I'm doing step by step.

I went to HL and bought one of those shadow box plaques with some type of sentiment on it that fits the approximate measurements I'm looking for.

I then cut some hard-white Styrofoam (my favourite) to fit inside the box then drew out the hull outline. I then cut out the outline and dug it out to fit my ship. Next up, I'll work on the rough shape of the waves and wake.

Somehow I always seem to be the last to get going....

Got started on the Myrt, have one sidewall glued to the fuselage half, and a few more bits to put on the other before gluing to the fuselage and painting the interior.  Will be some brushwork and decals to bring some items out.

Don't know how much I'll accomplish in Feb., month is pretty well booked out with meetings, and my lady's heart valve replacement.

GH, I hope everything goes well with her operation.

I am trying a new technique for a calm water effect. I saw a young fellow use aluminum foil to make waves, but that got me thinking, what I use the foil to make the ripples and my old technique for the swells and wave frequency.

So here it is so far.

I crumpled the foil and glued it to the sanded and molded Styrofoam base. Once it was dry, I cut the excess around the base. I then applied medium acrylic gel to smooth out the harshness of the foil and provide an acrylic base to paint. I then sprayed the first coat of blue to the foil but actually need to glue the ship to the base before I continue the spraying.

GH, nice start on the typical Hase pit. Gonna love watching this one.

Steve, that is a very convincing approach to the water. It looks easier than other methods I've seen.

Thanks,

I glued the ship to the base and added some gel at the hull and for the bow and stern wake swells. These (all the white) will dry clear and I paint them blue and add turquoise in spots for under surface turbulence.

I'll have to admit, it's looking nice.Whistling Maybe something I'll have to take to the Nats in 2021

Checking in with the progress I've made on the MiG-21.  All the interior bits were painted that needed to go in prior to the fuselage halves being joined.

That's a superb dio Steve.  I think the foil really does add some life to the water. Can't wait to see more pics!

Steve, that water work is amazing. I need to learn this.

Stu, that pit is awesome. There is so much going on in these modern pits. Well done.

Thanks!  It's much appreciated.  Every pic I was able to find of a gray MiG-21 cockpit showed it beaten to a pulp.  I was kind of surprised that the color callout was for the gray.  I had only ever seen the MiG pit in that funky blue/green before.  But the Eduard PE that came with the cockpit set was gray, so my hands were tied.

Love the kit so far.  Everything just falls together.  Even with a resin pit.

From what I've found out is that the early ones were gray and later updated to the russian blue/green when they were reworked and it depended on the camo of the plane when it was made if I read the thread correctly.

After the gel dried I sprayed a second coat of blue, added the light blue/turquoise, applied the first coat of varnish and some of the cotton. The additional varnish coats will cover the cotton (all part of the effect) then I'll add some more cotton on the surface.

after the varnish has dried

That makes sense.  Still curious as to why that blue color was ultimately selected.  The only thing I can think is the color is so garish that it forces the pilot to look out of the cockpit.

The Russians used that Turquoise for calming purposes. It was supposed to help over long flights.

Update on my lady.....Heart valve procedure went without a hitch, she was in ICU by 10AM after going intothe OR at 7:30, out of ICU at 3PM and out of hospital by 3 yesterday and back home.  Doing great.  From what I gather, (having three stents myself), they go in through the groin and place the new valve just like a stent, no need to do open heart.

Taking the Myrt with me to convention on the coast this w/e, will have most of Sunday to do something on it, at least that's the plan.

Thanks gentlemen.  She got the results of the echo and ekg last night.....the ejection fraction went up from 65% to 73%. That is the volume of blood moved out of the ventricle on each heartbeat.  So she is going to be in way better shape than I am (25%)
