You're making great time on this 109.

Steve and Bobby, you two are hauling "A" through these kits. I still haven't cracked mine open yet. The F-14 is hoggin' the whole bench atm. Hopefully, in a week or so I can jump into my kit. Man, we are gonna have some great builds this year.

BK

Thank you sir!  It is a wonderful kit and going together beautifully.

Great builds for sure!  This years kits were great!  I think Santa was good to everyone!  LOL!

I am hoping to crack open my kit today and get started. I'll post up pics as soon as I get somewhere.

BK

Ok, 15 sprues, 631 parts, PE parts. This may take a day or two to complete.

I started building the Dodge Charger, and it brought back childhood memories of pitiful attempts to build car models!  But this more modern kit has engine parts that actually fit!  Stick out tongue

But AMS is fully in charge, and since I never watched any of the "Fast and Furious" movies, I feel the need to verify little details like the finish of the trim (chrome or black).  Already I am noticing the usual inconsistencies in the actual filming vehicle(s) since multiple cars were used.

I need to get some primer on the parts since I can't see a thing on the translucent white plastic!  I can also get better photos of the parts.  The chrome sprues are soaking in Purple Power in my laundry sink, so I'll rinse them off when I get back home.  The chome plating was gone as of last night, and the clear undercoat was coming off in gooey strings.  I left the plated wheels alone, since they looked fine.

No bad thoughts about Santa when a piece of PE goes flying into the carpet!

Looks good Steve!

Kevin, I'm following following your build with obvious interest. Stick out tongue

I have Dragon's release of the Dicker Max when they and Trumpeter released competing kits.  If I remember from the reviews at the time, the Dragon one is even more labor intensive and has a higher part count!  Probably why it sits in the back of my closet still!

The OHP and 109 are looking good so far, and holy progress Batman! Those are coming together quickly.

BK, I'm also following the Dicker Max for the same reasons. Looking forward to following your build.

I'm looking to start in on the Pz. IV late next week. All of the paint schemes are from the Ardennes Offensive, so a January build seems very apropos.

So here are some progress shots of the Charger:

The chrome plated sprues have been cleaned using an overnight bath of Purple Power, save for the wheels.

The supercharger air inlet has some mold damage on its lip, which will be repaired with controlled drops of CA glue.  There are gaps between the supercharger body and cylinder banks, which will need to be filled in with some sheet plastic - it cannot be simply lowered, as then the drive belt will not fit.

I read a kit review on the IPMS USA website, and the builder painted the engine block orange - it this correct?  Revell's instructions seem to indicate almost everything is to be painted in various blacks and steel.

Oh cool Chad, sweet looking score!

BTW, if I loose a PE part, there's no one to blame but myself.

G, good start on the Charger. Ahhh the issues of auto building. BK can answer your block color better but I believe it would be orange. I believe it depends who the engine manufacturer is, Dodge, Chevy....

Like the Charger, one of my most favorite cars.

I'm trying to remember if they showed under the hood in the movie but it escapes me.  I'd bet that since the entire movie revolves around custom cars, they wouldn't go with the stock Dodge engine color though.

Another anomaly is that the kit lacks exhaust pipes, mufflers, and catalytic converters!

OK you F&F fans, did Vin Diesel really drive around with no exhaust system?  Man, it’s almost like the darn neighborhood kids!!!  And the CO would seep up through the cigarette holes in the floor.

The Aoshima Max Max Interceptor kit had phony 4-pipe exhausts, with only one pipe on each side being active.

There's a Youtube video of one of the stunt Chargers in a drag race, looks like there are exhaust pipes to me!  Smile

My guess would be orange.  Suspect that it would be a blown 383, 440 or a hemi.  If your valve covers have depressions it's a hemi.

Don't remember any underhood shots in the movie, and it wasn't rolled out till late in the movie.

'70 was in the days before cats.

The engine is a blown hemi and Dom only pulled the car out to race it on the street. He was scared of the car he said. The engine was black if I remember as well. The movie is pretty corny, but there are some seriously sick muscle cars in the series.

As far as exhaust goes, it was supposed to be an illegal street racer, why would it have exhaust? Open headers all day on this one.

Hope this helps.

BK

This is the actual car.

Thanks guys for all the info!  I think I’d better keep the AMS from creeping in though, so that the model will get built.  I’m noticing the radio antenna coming and going, the linkage for the butterfly valves switching sides, gobs of fuel lines tucking into the supercharger; it’ll never end if I keep chasing these things.

I keep telling myself to simplify my processes and finish stuff.  Hopefully this will be the year.

I had intentions of applying glue to styrene today, but Saturday flew by way to quickly!  Hoping to do so tomorrow.

I did take a quick picture of the box filled to the brim though:

There is an interesting figure included, an Afghan ally or civilian?

An odd inclusion, but the detail is molded very well and I'll have to use it with a more fitting piece in the future.

Ah OK cat = catalytic converter.  Yes, pre-EPA days. How could I have forgotten, I was there.  So probably no mufflers because the character is such a swell guy?  Anyway, that’s the least of my concerns.  Now where is that belt and pulley set I ordered?

No pictures yet but working on the PE using my new PE bender. It's so sweet!

I haven't lost any PE yet Santa, I promise.

Ok, so I reviewed the movie. The car isn't show with the engine well enough or long enough to see an engine color. To be Mopar correct you would paint the engine "Hemi Orange" which is actually a redish color compared with Chevy orange. The movie also shows it with full exhuast and mufflers, although it doesn't sound like it, that part is up to you.

I hope this helps some.

OK Santas.

This is where I am with the OHP. I received a PE bender for my birthday and WOW! I love it!! It's takes time to set it up and actually bent the PE but the results are amazing. Far better than bending with tweezers and then spending a while repairing the mess you just made. Where have you been all my life sweetheart?

Amazing, bend, bend, touch the glue and place where needed, done!

Aint they pirdy?

GH, YES.

Chad, thanks, I have so much going on that I might put PE railing on my Ki-45 Nick Confused

I always do this to myself the first of the year. I usually come to my sences sometime around June.
