Seems that there is sufficient interest, I will create an official thread for the build in the near future!

Well this sounds great. Please put me down for a 1/48th scale USMC CH-53D in desert colors. If we can do more than one kit I have also been wanting to build a USMC OV-10D Bronco in desert colors. The 1/32 scale kit that is out.

Bish, It is a nice kit. I built one well almost three years ago now. I’d like to replace that one as it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to. It also looks rather boring without weathering effects. With the new techniques I’ve learned since then the next one should be a lot better.

I’ve been looking for an excuse to build another Challenger. Put me down for a Tamiya 1/35 Challenger 1 Mk.3.

Well I’m in then. I would love to do a CH-53D, CH-53E, and an OV-10. I’ve never done a group build. How does it work?

Dan

Gunny basically it's just a group of us building a like themed subject. In this case Desert Storm. Just post in progress pics and then finals. The head honcho will then post your final pic of choice on the first page to show off. Most GB have a "badge" that you can add to your signature line of you choose.

hope this helps

I might be able to take part, depends on the time frame. I do have an Airfix Nimrod but am planning on picking up an M109A2 which i might enter.

But may i suggest you call it the Gulf War GB rather than ODS, unless of course your just limiting it to US subjects.

This is a good suggestion, it would be open to subjects from any of the coalition forces or the Iraqi military.

I would build for it.  Is it only armor or aircraft are ok too?

Gunny Dan

I would say anything that was used in ODS would be fine, be it armor, aircraft, ships, or figures.  Markings would necessarily be related to the operation as well though.

I'd build for it too, but all of my ODS aircraft have quite a bit of progress on them already so I'm not sure what I have would qualify.  Most of my unbuilt stockpile is from the 80s, so its all definitely chronologically accurate for the time period.

I have a M1A1 in the stash that might work.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I'll participate in one.  I belong to a Facebook modelling group who are going to be doing a Desert Storm group build starting in January, so I'll just enter both group builds with the same kit (Academy M60-A1 RISE, in USMC markings).

I am amazed while going through my stash inventory, I think I only have a single kit that is set for a Desert Storm configuration, Takom's M9 ACE.  Lots of kits with Afghanistan and Iraqi Freedom though!  You can tell when I started stockpiling.

Not sure if out of the box is  a '91 version or a '03 version, or if the vehicle was ever upgraded in the interim!  Quick research makes it seem that the first overhaul didn't happen until 2006 though.

If we can get a couple more takers, I guess I can start the thread for the GB, starting in January of course.

There was one a couple of years ago. It had good participation.

Desert Storm Groupbuild?

We seem to be coming up on the 30th anniversary of Operation Desert Storm, 17 January 1991 to 28 February 1991.  Anyone looking to host a GB for it?
