Hiram,

This particular build is for scratchbuilding a Trek related subject. No straight from the box kits You can use a kit as a base to build the subject off of..

There is no real formal process to join a build. Just declare you'd like to be in the build by posting a message in the forum. Also, provide a link to an image of the subject you plan to model.

Alright STSBG Team members, I have finished the design and the appropriate exterior drawings (less the nacelles), completed forming and shaping of the upper half of the fuselage and one interior support frame.
Since I went crazy with the scale (1/15) for the shuttle pod, it looks like I have to detail the interior. How you ask? When i was drawing them up, I made the pod drawing as big as it can fit on an 8-1/2 x 11 sheet and then used them as the templates. The interior of the pod is a problem. Does any know where I can get a drawing or pics of the shuttle pod's interior? I know that it was shown in a few episodes such as "Ensigns of Command", but I do not have it recorded. Can anyone help?

Hi Hiram, Michael is right about this being a scratch build and how to join up. We would be very pleased to have you join. You may chose a ship from any media. If you haven't looked through the original post, you will see what everyone is building for this project. If go to one of the links that has been posted you can look at the various starship designs and pick one that catches your imagination. Provide the image and I will post it in the Group Roster along with your name. If you haven't tried a scratchbuild project before, don't worry as we will help all we can and the build doesn't end until Dec.1st.

That might take some serious planning though. I've always wanted to do that. But you could do something along those lines, utilizing the main components of the BOP.

Thanks for the kindness, gentlemen. I'm a simple person with a tiny brain and I just build the model from the box. I'm not advanced enough to do the complicated procedures you all do. I shall watch from afar and make ooh and aah noises.
If you are kind enough to post pictures of your finished products, I'll save them on my desktop and continue to be jealous of the artistic among you.

The artistic people are the ones coming up with drawings that we are using to do this build. My main theme for scratch building is sci fi, I do build other thing,s but I use sci fi as a monotony breaker as it were when I'm to burn't out trying to replicate exactly a piece of WW2 armor or a figure. I actually have a scratch built tank that I designed myself and have been working on for about 4-5 years but I fell into a rut trying to give everything a purpose. But I dont think of myself as talented I just like to build things and you shouldnt sell yourself short just give it a try and see what happens cause if theres a place to learn how to do it its scifi cause there's no pressure just build it the way you think its best!!!!

Me too, Hiram. This will be my first scratchbuild. I chose an easy subject that I could get parts from craft, hobby and hardware stores (plastic spheres, assorted shapes, plastic tubing). Woody is right about getting help here. If you stiil want to give a try, try this link to some simple shaped ST universe ships.

I started out doing kitbashes, which is a great lead-in to scratchbuilding. Actually my first true scratchbuild was the Lyran cruiser in my sig. Everyone's right though, just have fun with it. Nobody's grading you and we can all help each other.

By the way, if anyone's in need of small greeblies, Model Expo is closing out some Airfix Moskva helicopter carriers that are choc full of tiny bits great for detailing. $4 each, I think.

That,s the main reason I bought out here SQ I didnt want to pay 300,000 for an OC barbie villa I have to many hobbies to keep up with and I have plenty of space here especially after I start throwing kids out (haha). Im going to enter my star fighter a figure (pics later) a normandy dio, I was hoping to finish up a 1/72 Thunderbolt (2nd model with an airbrush first aircraft) but there is always next time. Yeah its all sheet styrene. I wanted to speed it up by casting the duplicate parts but my wife talked me into the challenge of repeating all the work for both sides. Smile [:)]

It is all .030 and .040 sheet stock reinforced or laminated as needed.

Woody, I'm not really sure about the scale. I went with the size in the schematics and that brought it to 7" front to back and 9.75" wing tip to wing tip. The artical described it as a two man craft so I'm thinking about 1:48 scale. Confused [%-)]

Using Bernd's(EAS) dimension of 25 meters as length, 1/72 scale would make 13.67" long, and 1/48 scale would be 20.51".
