Mansteins revenge

Really nice...a very textured and layered finsih which is an art to achieve in itself...very convincing, IMO, but not over the top in terms of distressing the finish...oustanding use of chicken and barbed wire that was seen on so many late-war American tanks...base gives it more "life"...a real treat for all Armor fans...top-shelf work here...YesYes...

http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-chores033.gif?s=36 Great to hear from you Manny.

Hopefully this will prompt someone to do "that tank" that they've  been eyeballin' for a long whilehttp://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/attachments/off-topic/46203d1257571332-the-smiley-thread-square-eyeball.gif

Oh Master of Disaster, I must bow Bow Down  to your modelling greatness!

I'm a bit late responding, but I had to drop in to say what a great build and WIP this was!  Outstanding work that instructs, enlighten, inspires, and provides a armor feast for the eyes!  The dirtied whitewash it amazing!  Can't wait to see your next creation!

Thank you bufflehead for your comment. Better late than never.

I'm glad this has brought you a bit of insight.

Now I'm looking forward to seeing you use some of it in the near future.

Hinksy

Hey DM,

I don't know a great deal about American armour - the Sherman in particular (something I'm hoping to remedy as I have the Dragon Hybrid Firefly in my stash which will be on my bench VERY soon - it's as close to a 'proper' Sherman as my stash gets at present! Yes

Anyway, onto this build of yours - it's not bad. It's bloody AWE INSPIRING! WOW!

I'm with Tigerman on the MG cover as I do like to see a well modelled .50cal in all it's glory but saying that I doubt I could have even made the cover!

I'm not sure but I recall reading that bedsprings/mattresses ets were attached to Shermans to take the 'oomph' of the low velocity Panzerfaust projectile - was the chicken wire intended to have the same effect? Please correct me if I have completely the wrong idea!

I won't be surprised if I see this Shermie of yours on the cover of FSM very soon - it's perfection. What more can I say!

Again, great job DM. Just pure perfection in plastic.

I haven't been folowing this blog but will sit down and read the full 20 something pages tonight as it looks like I could learn a bit from this blog!

Very well done matey - what's up on the bench next? Any plans or is a little break in store?

This definately has my vote as best blog of 2011 so far too! So funny!

Thanks for sharing this build with us buddy,

Take care,

Ben Toast

Well Ben, http://th473.photobucket.com/albums/rr95/dxypher_ryutuisenmitsuguri/smileys/th_Picture17.gifby now you've probably seen the picture I posted earlier with the .50 M2 on top just like you wanted. http://th165.photobucket.com/albums/u67/kentuckydiva/smileys/th_wow.gif Hope it does the job for 'ya and the others who wanted to see that too.

http://hq-coh.com/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;attach=9741;type=avatarThe chickenwire issue was a field mod for attaching camouflage to the vehicle. The bed spring modification was a russian idea to blunt the panzerfaust threat as you mentioned but I don't think mattresses were ever used; also, I have never seen the bed spring scenario used on American tanks....  of course as soon as I say that, a picture will probably pop up with a Russian lend-lease Sherman sporting a deluxe http://th272.photobucket.com/albums/jj182/roysecitymamas/Smileys/th_twinboys.gif set of 'em.

I believe the bed spring idea http://th17.photobucket.com/albums/b98/Carlosnsp/Smileys/th_12_5_251.gif began as such but eventually progressed to actually fabricating mesh screens for that purpose.

http://th1132.photobucket.com/albums/m575/maxmoo/Funny%20Pics/Decor%20Smileys/th_glasses.gif If you see this Sherman anywhere else it most likely will be in the IPMS modelers members journal.

http://s32.ucoz.net/sm/2/smile.gif Right now I'm currently gathering info on the Porsche Tiger II VK45.02(P) Vorne and checkin' out the parts in the box. http://img02.taobaocdn.com/bao/uploaded/i2/T1eRR1XhVvXXcOnQA1_041758.jpg_160x160.jpg

http://th1132.photobucket.com/albums/m575/maxmoo/Funny%20Pics/Decor%20Smileys/th_tired-smiley-computer.gif After a few more entries on this thread I'm probably going to slide off the screen for a while and work on my kit.

http://www.emofaces.com/en/emoticons/v/voting-emoticon.gif Glad to have your vote and the opportunity to pass out some laughter with a few emoticons in the process.

Thank you for such a well composed and appreciative response to my efforts.

WOW !!!! I wasnt here when this thread started and i'm fortunate to be here at its end ,and this appears to have been an epic one ! I have a couple of these ole Tamiya Jumbo's in my stash and had written them off as a lost cause . After seeing what you have done with this kit i am going to re open the box and rethink my options . Thats whats most intriguing about your build ....the ability to take an old kit and bring up to present day standards .Great thread ! To bad its over .

Hope I didn't mislead you to think this was a modification of the old Tamiya Jumbo kit.
Anyhow I'm glad this was a good thing for you.

Steve .....What the Shell ? (LOL) I didnt realize this thread was still alive ........or that you had answered my post from way back in last July !

Your right , i did jump to the conclusion that this was the Tamiya kit ...........my bad ..........i finally went back and READ your post ...........instead of just looking at the pics , and the emotocoms (which are cool Cool) .

Again , its a beaut ! Your finished model has a lot of interesting details to take in . I like !

Hmmm.......Hmm, will i be posting on this thread again in another 8 months ?

Till then ............Toast
