Trumpeters Modern Armor 1/35
Posted by autovomatic88 on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 10:43 AM

So I have been picking my brain for awhile trying to figure out when these kits are going to be released. They were introduced in 2008 and I am interested in the LMTV. It is an expensive kit for around 55 dollars. Well the theme I am working with is Up armored Modern Military so I thought I would wait for the Up armors to come out. Well here we are 2 years later. They are saying this year or next year.......... Huh? Does any body know when?

Secondly I am enjoying the fact that they are producing another Oshkosh Truck. With me living only 20 minutes away from the plant. Its nice to see maybe we will see some 1/35 M-ATVs. That would be pretty amazing build.

Well let me know your thoughts anxiously waiting.

I would love to see some more modern stuff out, but, the cost is just too much for me.  You can get a lot more kit with cheaper options on the market.

Trumpeter is kind of odd on their pricing of modern vehicles. Some kits, such as the LAV series, PT-76 series or SA-6 arequite reasonably priced. While otehrs like these Oshkosh trucks, are not. If they were not so pricey, I would snatch them up. But unless I can find a good deal, I will most likely not.

It is not Trumpeter controlling the price in the US....it is Stevens International, their importer. As for getting it cheaper....keep an eye on eBay. Every now and then you find one at a bargin price.....

That is true my friend. But their alter ego Hobby Boss has a similar MO as well in pricing. Some kits quite affordable, some not so.  And yes I do keep my eye open at IPMS and AMPS meetings, kit collector shows, and of course Ebay for bargains... After all, it is tax refund season. Picked up my W2 yesterday.Devil And mind you, I am quite grateful for the great selection we have these days. It sure beats 20 years ago for modern vehicles.

One guess who is the Hobby Boss importor  Surprise......they import about 75% of the model brands.....

Now I do agree, with all the fuss, it is nothing like the 70s or 80s.....life and selection is good....maybe a bit too much German...but I can survive with whats on the shelf......that does not mean I don't want more Crying

Unfortunately, there are no solid release dates on the Trumpeter trucks.  They are nice looking and we are all waiting on them.  Be patient and they will get here.

Some vehicles, like tanks, old deuce and a halfs, etc. are cheaper to produce because there are no licensing requirements. With Oshkosh, Hummer, Stewert & Stevenson, Jeep, there are licensing requirements. Additionally, tanks and armored vehicles appeal to a larger audience; therefore your price point can be lower because they will recoup the costs of production in volume sales. Trucks, on the other hand, are a niche market and do not sell as well as other armor.

Anyone remember the old Monogram armor days? Seems like after the Patton, Shermans, panzers & Lees were gone, the old deuce sat on the shelf for ages. Even when Italeri first released the M923A1, M925, M977 and M978, they did not sell very well and sat on shelves while everyone else grabbed the tank and armor kits.
