Tamiya 1/25 scale Tiger I

The below shots are just a comparison to the average 1/35 scale tanks that are the most popular now. Yeah its only a smaller Marder II but it still gives you some idea how big this Tiger model is

Very ambitious and huge project. 

I applaud your efforts on doing your zimmerit. What did you use? My only suggestion is that next time you make the separations of rows smaller, rather then large swaths across.

First time with an AB? Looks pretty good. It looks like you probably had a can of propellant. This too is how I started out, but found out that they are expensive and hard to control the pressure. That's why you had some splattering.

I like the muffler work you put into it, with the dents and holes. 

I learned that the muzzle of the barrel wouldn't have blackened up such as you portrayed, errors I made on many of my older kits. HTH

Hi and thanks Tigerman. Yes you are impressively correct I was using a can of propellant on this, horrible, yes I couldnt control the pressure but better than using a brush I guess.

Yeah I reckon the guns muzzle wouldnt have been so black but on that I have seen a shot of Whittmans Tiger in Russia.. looked very black then O_o

As for the Zimmer coating I used Tamiya general usage putty. The first time Ive done that tbh. I could only get 1/35 scale zimmer tool so as the Tiger was in odd ball 1/25 I just had to do my best.

Ive just finished an sdkfz 163 assault tank in 1/35 but with that I used a heated up zimmer tool, no paste ('cept for the side shields), and simply etched it into the plastic, sounds crude but it came over really well haha

That zimmerit looks pretty good on the StuG. I can't say I've seen zimmerit on the schurzen of StuG's, but on a few Pz IV's.

You can just make it out on the hull of this one as well, ( taken at Normandy '44)

Where was the frustration?  With the kit, or the air brush?  Just wondering.  It looks like a nice kit with some decent detail.  Since I do a lot of 1/24-scale vehicles, it would be cool to have one of these in my 'shop'.

Think you could post a pic of this monster next to a 1/35 kit? It looks sharp and I commend your patience in regards to the air cans, I put up with those for one 1/48 aircraft kit... it was a nightmare. I really need to get a brush capable of fine detail, I want to do a legit tricolor camo.

I was referring to the schurzen or side skirt armor. I do agree that the hull could have had it on in some instances.

Tbh the real frustration was in one of the last parts, the actual wire you have to bend and apply to the left hand side, it was very hard getting that correct shape.

Its the track-replacement wire the crews used to pull the new tracks over the bogie wheels. Placing it in this kit was like a spring!  As soon as you thought you had it right and the instant cement was set.. PINGGGG it would spring out again hahaha. But eventually we all get it :)

Great work Jester. I have only one question is to weather or not you used the right Fiefel's. The Build looks awesome. May I make two suggestions. For your Zimmerett try two things, number on Apoxie Sculpt and number two Color Shapers. I will provide the links below. The AS is great I have used it on my Jagdtiger. I am going to post some images soon on Model Armour....  Second the Color Shapers which are available from *** Blick and Jerry's Artarama. They work great but you have to stab the putty to make individual zimmerett marks. Its very time consuming but the results are worth it...

Hi and thanks.. yeah I didnt have the exact scale tool for this, 1/25's a bit of an oddball. I had family going over to Japan and that was the only place I could get one fresh off the shelf as it were, I think theyve stop making a lot of these in 1/25 scale now which is a shame. Thanks for the info :)

What about the interior? You could go crazy like I did LOL......

Yeah did a bit on the interior, from the shots I put up. Found though as this was a kit moulded back in the 70's the interior was really basic and I cbf adding extras as there werent that many around here to be able to get for it. All the hatches etc open, turret top is sealed but turret is removable so you can see up and inward.
