Tamiya Merk1 WIP, Finished 9/9

RBaer - that tank looks better and better with every post! Those blue mats look very interesting. What is that white stripe on the barrel and what is it for? I don't know too much about Israeli armour, so I thought I'd ask...

Thanks, Pawel. I saw some blue mats in a pic and like the color for visual interest. I actually had a couple myself for a while, they go under a sleeping bag.

The white stripe along the length of the gun tube is called a "Yanush stripe", after it's inventor. It's purpose is to aid the TC in quickly laying the gun at night, getting it close enough for the gunner to identify the target.

Pigments are pretty much done unless I dust-up the air recog panel I added last night. I also got the lights and periscopes painted, now making lenses with Micro Crystal Clear. I have the loader's MG ready but not installed until I have a loader, and antennae are ready but not painted.

Rob, I'm in the same Orphaned Armor GB, doing a Sherman that will hopefully come from at least three partial kits in the stash, so I'll thin it a little. And in the meantime, there's three or four IDF builds in line, new kits that look really enticing, plus an old half-built Tamiya M48 that's really in need of a hopefully soon-to-be-kitted (crossed fingers here) M8 'dozer assembly. Oh well.

Doog, I like the fenderless look too. There are quite a few pics of these things in the streets of Beirut with  both fenders gone, apparently a "casualty" of urban operations. On my list is a Merk1B that'll have the full skirts and fenders, but I had to do this one without, just cuz.....

Mine is more towards a sand color due to time period. If and when I do a 1B, it'll be a little more on the gray side of sand since a re-paint was part of the update process.

Figs started last night, Academy, again......

Base colors, then gloss because I ran out of flat, but I'm O-KAY.

I started a simple base this morning, no time for pics and not enough to be pic-worthy.

RBaer, the boys are looking nice! Don't worry about the gloss, you can always "flat" them at a later date! Good luck with your painting and have a nice day

Figs in, base begun....

Lots to do on the base still, but the model is done, hope to get some actual nice pics taken soon.

And finally done!

Base was finished last night, and I got some decent outdoors pics this morning, just need to pay more attention to things like my own shadow, background, etc, but these are actually pretty true to the real colors, so I'm happy with them.

Thanks to all who looked, now on to something new.....

I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed this build, it was lots of fun working with an older but basically sound kit.

Next? Oooh, not sure. I have a Pershing going on for a GB here, there's a Sherman in the line for another GB here, and the stash is chock-full of more nifty IDF stuff, and.....

I dunno.....  maybe something French?

 Hmmmm...     French eh?

I really like the way the CharB's tracks are total-loss lubricated, makes for some interesting weathering possibilities, and that 3-tone, black-outlined camo is pretty cool.
