Humber MKII
Posted by Romponifele on Sunday, August 24, 2014 12:53 PM

I just finished my first model, a 1/72 kit by Hasegawa. It is a Humber MKII I built out of the box, I only added antennae and straps for the sleeping bags. This is my first model and I want to post some pictures hoping you guys can give me some feedback and help me improve, any comments welcome.

I weathered the model with the Tamiya kit (the one that looks like makeup) and made some mud with chalk mixed with paint thinner.

This was an attempt to create paint chips. I wanted to chip the paint where the personnel would walk around (I think, I don't know, I've never seen this thing in real life) as well as around the hatch. I read about creating paint chips with hairspray so that's what I tried. Funny side note, I am a bald man, I got some looks at the store when I was buying hairspray... I over did the chipping so I brushed the turret with a light shade of Tamiya light sand (from the make up kit)

Looks pretty darn good to me!

Not sure I'd be much use on advice since I can barely see something this small! I'm not sure I'd go too far with chipping since it seems to be more a German and Soviet thing since British and American hardware seemed to have been much better maintained.

Your first model, well you have made a nice start. I am not a big fan of chipping what ever the nationality. I tend to stick with a dry brush around the edges and high points. A pin wash might help as well, but these are all things that can be picked up along the way.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I agree with bish. And welcome to the forums. In the future plan the mud pattern a little more. Nice first build. Bob
