Steve

Great job on the flames. The best I have seen.

A couple of points

  • 1-  You and jibber are right you need black smoke too

  • 2-  Wouldn’t the electric cord burn up with the intense hea……. OH, Wait,   Now I Get It- never mind.

*************************************************************

P.S. Sincerely, A great job so far; this is going to be a pleasure to watch this come together.

Instead of an urban scene, I will be doing the causeway at the Rumaila oilfield since I can’t find any evidence of a destroyed T-72 at the battle of Khafji.
This is one of the flame pillars with the LED’s installed. I will be placing it in the hatch and add black smoke when I complete the build. What do you think?

Thanks guys, I still have a little more to do to the flame pillars. This is where I am so far, the deck and barrel are not attached. I have a hole for a TOW strike, but since I have never seen one, I need to know if it should be larger, or even much larger. I have some initial damage to the fenders, track and road wheels, remember, this attack just occurred and the tank is in the process of cooking off.

Steve I did one a while back and took my blade to take chunks out of the wheels and track and heated an awl to punch holes and when you pull it out it'll leave a nice rim around it. Doing great Steve.

Just a couple a damaged ones I've done.

I didn't try any fire but I cut and twisted some metal and punched a lot of holes. Just offering some ideas Steve, I think you're going along great.

Steve, the 'fire' looks fantastic! I wasn't sure how it would come off but I love what you've got going on there. Probably could use more black smoke added to the top as the guys said but it shouldn't be too hard.

The destruction looks really cool too though as I understand a shaped charge just burns a coin sized hole in the side of the tank and then spews red-hot gas into the vehicle's interior. I'll let more people here with more knowledge of the subject correct me here though.

It looks as though Imageshack is having difficulties. None of my pictures are working right now.

Sure, how high? Wink  Actually I was thinking of doing a YouTube how to video. I should be getting back on this as soon as I complete 2 other builds. Almost done with one a maybe a week for the other.

Now that it's been a little while and I have finally gotten back to it, I think it's ready for some paint.

I worked on the flame out of the barrel and wanted to show how I did it.
First, after drilling a hole through the barrel all the way to the mallet, I inserted some wire for the LED.

Next I soldered the wires to the LED and covered them with shrink tubing to prevent shorts.

Attaching the battery pack provides me with the assurance that everything is working well.

I then applied some white glue to the bulb to attach the cotton.

I applied a bit of cotton to simulate the flame.

And lit it again to see if I have the desired effect.

After painting yellow, orange and black and letting it dry.......

This is the result, with the flame piller attached to show the whole scene.

That's where I am so far.

That looks awesome.  I think that is the most realistic flame effect I have seen.  Usually, it looks fake and bad, but not this one.  Great job.  I can't wait to see it finished and on the base.

 Steve that is scary good.

As you show us, it isn't all that hard to do.....it's just the  immense   talent used, to get it to all come together and look like that

Hey Steve, make sure when you put this finished Dio on the display table at a contest that no fire extinguishers are close by!!

The flame looks that real! Great job!

While I work on the base, install the battery holder and switch, I've completed the Lion, which of course, is missing the fire for now. Well.... decals are stll in order.
