Dragon KT Porsche Turret WHIP
Posted by plasticjunkie on Thursday, October 11, 2018 4:11 PM

I'm taking a break from planes so I moved on to my armor stash. I have several Tigers in there so I decided to pull out a Dragon #6189 Porsche Turret King Tiger for this whip. This is a fairly easy kit to assemble and has a low parts count. I will not be spending any time on the interior since it has none to begin with, just the gun breach details which I will not deal with cause it will be all closed up. I have a Takon KT with complete interior so more time and effort will be spent on that one when I get to it.

I will be doing black 114 of s.Pz.Abt.503.

All Porsche turret KTs had zimm so I was gonna use Squadron Putty and my zimm tool but decided to try out the Meng zimm decal for this version. The decal makes things very easy and it actually matches the Dragon model. I did have to make some slight adjustments here and there but for the majority it fits really well.

I skipped documenting putting on some of the parts to keep this whip moving since it will get busier later on with the paint and weathering. So as you can see the multi part rear hatch decal fits and matches all the holes and edges.

I'm using a combination of Aleene's  and water thin CA where needed, specially along the edges.

The decals fit like a glove even in the rear plate that has a bunch of details.

I decided to have some fenders off so I trimmed the decal so the parts will have a better fit.

I had to trim off the very top rear cause it was a tad off but will be trimming the small piece to cover that area after the main decal dries.

I really like these decals and will eventually get some more in the near future for other tanks.

Nice to see you doing such a sweet *** cat PJ. Nice work so far. I have heard about those decals, it more more textured than i thought it would be. I like how it had blank spots for the tool brakets and other items welded to the hull.

Thanks Bish, yes the decal is textured and the tool holes on the decal match the Dragon holes too. The texture is very well done and is not exagerated as in some molded zimm you see.

I normally use Milliput, but i am planning on getting the meng Tiger II to replace the old tamiya kits i had built. I might have to try those decals.

Bish Squadron Green putty is very easy to apply and work with. I have several rollers than I just roll and get the pattern. Meng also makes that waffle pattern for the Stugs and Panthers.

First off, the decals look pretty darn good. Second, does the Meng decals also match the Dragon Stug III G?

Thanks Tojo and Tigerman. As far as the decals fitting the Dragon Stug, I have no idea but suspect they do. I got these as an experiment and discovered they match the Dragon Tiger pretty good.

Thanks Gamera. I will be out of town for the next week so the Tiger will be resting on my bench till I return.
