Ah, that is the price of building review kits...since MM was responsible for sending me the model, it wouldn't be fair to not give them first dibs on the material.

This one is also completely (well, almost) o.o.b. , which is highly unusual for me.

Nice build and subject. However the price tag is also out of my spending limits as some others have described as well.
I watched the whole video anime that guardsmen22 posted on page two. Very interesting. I also have built an MS kit in 1/144 and like the engineering and fit of the Bandai kits. But I know nothing about the characters and story.
Post some WIP here in FSM...

Cthulhu is a sort of elemental force/god created by Lovecraft and used by all sorts of authors (S. King has a number of Cthonic stories). Fun stuff to read.

Anywho, I did manage to get the barrels in today, and began on the fiddly bits:

Wiki is your friend Karl, though, I thought you would know this

"

Cthulhu is a cosmic being character created by horror author H. P. Lovecraft in 1926, first appearing in the short story "The Call of Cthulhu" when it was published in Weird Tales in 1928.

Cthulhu is one of the central Great Old Ones of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos. It is often cited for the extreme descriptions given of its hideous appearance, its gargantuan size, and the abject terror that it evokes. Cthulhu is often referred to in science fiction and fantasy circles as a tongue-in-cheek shorthand for extreme horror or evil.

Cthulhu has also been spelled as Tulu, Clulu, Clooloo, Cthulu, Cighulu, Cathulu, Kutulu, Q’thulu, Ktulu, Kthulhut, Kulhu, Thu Thu,[1] and in many other ways. It is often preceded by the epithet Great, Dead, or Dread.

Lovecraft transcribed the pronunciation of Cthulhu as "Khlûl'-hloo" (IPA: /ˈkɬʊl.ɬuː/ ?).[2] S. T. Joshi points out, however, that Lovecraft gave several differing pronunciations on different occasions.[3] According to Lovecraft, this is merely the closest that the human vocal apparatus can come to reproducing the syllables of an alien language.[4] Long after Lovecraft's death, the pronunciation kə-THOO-loo (IPA: /kəˈθuːluː/) became common, and the game Call of Cthulhu endorsed it.

After its first appearance in "The Call of Cthulhu", Cthulhu makes a few minor appearances in other of Lovecraft's works.[5] August Derleth, a correspondent of Lovecraft's, used the creature's name to identify the system of lore employed by Lovecraft and his literary successors, the Cthulhu Mythos."

Seeing kits like this, tamiya and trumpeter and such must be crapping their pants and thanking whatever diety that bandai isn't putting out wwii armor.

Great work, Cthulhu!

Lots of real estate to paint and weather...break out the industrial spray gun, huh?

Silly question: what type of salt are you using for your weathering...?

Keep up the great work --- can't wait to see this beast complete and kickin' butt!

Regards and Aloha,

Johnny B.

Most of the lower hull is done and ready for the spray booth. I used salt for the chipping:

hmmm Like I said, take a crack at one of these http://www.gundamstoreandmore.com/uchagrhgmoki.html there mostly not that expensive.  And the detail on the figures is rather nice.  What bandai does is they actuially have someone make the clothes for the figure in 1/1 scale and have someone that looks like what they want pose, they scan it with the computer, and turn that into a 3d image.  I forget where I saw it, they did it for the coffee guy in the command car in the article I read

The quality of this kit is really impressive, in fact, I would have to say it is the best model I have ever assembled. I usually "what-if" kits, but I just can't do it to this one.
