Shermie Goes A Shoppin'
Posted by shermanfreak on Thursday, January 8, 2004 10:24 PM
Well, made my semi-yearly pilgrimage to Calgary this afternoon to stock up on Tamiya paints.

Of course if a Sherman kit did happen to cry out to me to take it home, how could I refuse.

Well paydirt was struck when I entered one of the stores today. Seems they had just recently purchased a collection of older kits and had them on the shelves when I walked in.

One was a kit that I was trying to lay my hands on, the Academy M-51 Isherman, $34 Canadian ..... not getting away from me... no way. Then, as I rounded the corner in the store I came face to face with the DML M4A3 POA-CWS-H5 Flamethrower ...... for $25. [:0] .... another DML M-50 Isherman ..... also for $25 ........... and ...... the old Italeri M4A1 for $15.

Four Shermans for $100 Canadian.

Doesn't get any better than that. Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Lucky, lucky man.........The Acadamy M51 is $55 AUD at my LHS, that's about $54.60 Canadian! The Tamiya Early Sherman is just in, at $65 AUD.

If I want a Dragon Wagon to go with it, they have one in a toy shop in town (35k's away) for $299 AUD.

Now you know why I scratch build over buying Aftermarket!!!!

The dollar is somewhere between 77 and 78 cents US for an exchange rate of about 1.3o or 1.31. I'm doing lots of looking on Ebay lately

that's about what it's like with the crazy euro over here .77 euro cents gets ya a dollar. it's getting harder and harder to take out money to buy at the LHS even the cheaper kits are getting pricey and the COLA ( cost of living alowance) isn't helping out much it seems?

Must be expensive in your part of Aussie petbat , the last time I saw the Dragon Wagon down this way it am sure it was not as costly.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Sounds Great! (now for some reality, let's all go back to the 'Boy am I in trouble' thread).

Now, which are you going to build next? (hey you can build one now before the Sherman family build starts!)
LOL.

Hey everyone - yes, it was quite the bonanza to walk into. I had just recieved the M-50 earlier in the week and had paid $45 for it. But I figured I could always scavange one of them and still come out ahead. Getting an E-8 suspension costs more than what I paid for the second kit.

Domi - we'll have to get Betty to post some pics of your lingerie shopping sprees.

Pathfinder - 1.) lots 2.) sometimes

Eric - that would have been sweet

My other brother Eric - NOT

Jon - the old Italeri M4A1 is still a good old kit to work on. Not in the category of the newer product that is on the market, but still a worthwhile build and is usually far less expensive to purchase. The M36 B1 has some problems with the turret, you'd get more accuracy combining the new M36 kit's turret with Tamiya's M4A3 Hull.

Peter $299 ..... saw it yesterday for $189.

Alex - the smart shop owners always push the Shermans to the front when I come in.

Jon,

The Flamethrower version can be built as a standard 105mm with the E8 suspension just by leaving off the flamthrower tube.

The Italeri M4A1 is an excellent kit for it's age. The pioneer tools are not that good and the texture on the cast parts is way too smooth. But other than those things it's a top notch kit.

The M36B1 has got the lower M4A3 hull. The turret will take some work to get it right, but before Academy came out with their M36, it was the only real game in town. IMHO Italeri's M4A3 (the hull for the M36B1) is not as strong as their M4A1 because it has the same problems (tools, and cast textrue) and the exhausts are pretty poor. But, they are hidden under the rear end, so it may not matter to most people. It just drives me nuts!

If the price is decent, I'd jump.

I found both the M4A1 and the M36B1 in a LHS here about 4 months ago and picked them both up for $14 total. (and yes, I already had both of them sitting on my shelf somewhere!)

Looks like you cleaned up Robert!

I need some of your luck from the sound of things!
