Stug III G Finished Pics
Posted by wing_nut on Monday, April 4, 2011 12:19 PM

Hi All

Have not been around this forum much of late being involved in 2 GBs at the moment.  Building for tigerman's  Panzerjager GB and moderating The Great War GB.  Here is my Cyber Hobby Stug III G with deep wading muffler completed for the TMan's GB.  100% OOB.  Great fit... even for Dragon/CH.  But the instruction sheet...  OMGTongue Tied   Tamiya paint with oils washes and MIG pigments.

Comments, and critiques, as always welcome.

Marc,

Looks awesome...one question, do you apply the pigments dry or do you apply them over thinners and let them dry?

Very very nice!  May I ask: the vision blocks atop the commander's cupola seem painted dark yellow.  Maybe re-paint those?

Thanks everyone for all the nice comments.

Roy... that's masking tape.  I almost forgot to put it in so it figures I would forget to take it outTongue Tied

I just noticed one of my return rollers is loose.  Some of the angles make the tracks look kinda wonky

Nice build, paint and weathering.  Don't feel too bad about the track direction, these guys couldn't get theirs on right either:

Or this one where one track is on right and one wrong:

Backwards?  Ah crap!

It's gonna work either way though... I mean a 1:1 tank... but I have an extra set of tracks so i guess I'll fix it

I think that second one Pat would just go round in circles

Straighten up that roller/track issue and you got yourself another winner.

 OK now.......    where's the penny?

Don't feel bad about the tracks Marc, everyone experiences it at least once on a Pz III family vehicle! Wink

Looks like the usual standard we've come to expect from things rolling off your bench, nice work on the straight DY finish. Beer

Thanks guys Much appreciated.

Bill, it's not until you start weathering the 1 color scheme that you realize how difficult it seems.  It gets so dark looking so fast, you really need to talk yourself into, "It's not that dark...but STOP NOW!"Big Smile

Mike, sorry to say you missed a good one.  Still waiting for thee totals but there was a pile of armor there.  We had to do a double split of just the pre-45 category.

G, no worries.  In keeping with the vane of 2 part thoughts, my 1st reaction was, "That was harsh."  but then next thought was, "Nah! G's not like that."  I still love you. That's in a Wayne's World "I love you man" kinda way... not in a "let's get coffee kinda way.Wink  Interesting though, I looked at about a dozen walk around of Pz and Stug 3s and 4s and about 40% had them backward too.  Some of them looked like they came form, the field that way too.

Two reference photo's that show them wrapped around the running gear in the direction like your model ......makes me wonder why the heck did they shape the tracks like that anyway ?

Hey Wingy,

What a lovely build - Tracks on the wrong way is usually the first thing I notice but I didn't even notice at all - I was too captivated by that SUPERB dark weathered finish you've managed to obtain! I'm not just saying that to make you feel better either Cool

I used to do it all the time but that's the great thing about Friuls - just pull a pin and turn them around! I always leave an unglued 'safety' pin that can't be seen so should the tracks need to come off for any reason I can do it very easily.

I've also seen a lot of model show builds and even magazine pictures of  the real things and models with reversed tracks so unless you plan on showing it I'd leave well alone as it is a stunning build.

Thanks Ben.  Most times the drive sprocket will stay taut and straight on its own without glue so I don't use it if i don't have to. It was  a snap popping the tracks off and flipping them around.

It looks so spot on.
I have another lost picture where you can see a Stug III turning up towards the camera with an american truck in the background.
The commander is talking to someone at the side of the road.
This is exactly how I envisaged that tank.

I like the dented roadwheels, the tracks, the greasy looking undercarriage.

Thank you for sharing.

As always

Dawg, Boarder, MM, Andy... thanks guys.

Andy here's the thing... Just started a WNW 1/32 Albatros for my Great War GB.  I having such a blast making little turnbuckles and eyelets galore and rigging wire.  I was even making a few of those goodies while stuff was drying on the Stug.  I made a comment elsewhere that the least time I was this excited about a model I was building it was when I change from all aircraft all the time to all armor all the time.  Does this means I am about to go all WWI bipe all the time?     Whistling NAH! But I bet I bounce back and forth a lot more.  I did pick up a Panther and T-34/85 at MCon that I wouldn't mind starting.  I guess I really didn't answer your question did I?Stick out tongue

Brilliant work Marc, pity about the return roller. As for the tracks, well add me as well, I got one right the other wrong and never noticed until Karl pointed it out.

All aside great work .

Terry, tanks for stopping by and the kind words.  I fixed the rollers and tracks but did;t take another photo.  I might do that one of these days.
