You guessed right Bish, Dragon. It is an "initial production" version so I'm doing my research to make sure I use the correct option for drive/idler sprockets and transmission covers. I'm excited as it's my first Hummel.

I have not done a Hummel yet, in fact i only have the ammo carrier kit, still need to get a gun kit. Will be looking forward to seeing more.

Off to a great start.

DML famously led many modelers astray with their Hummel and Nashorn kits by poor directions regarding the placement of a jig-template on the lower sides of the fighting compartment. DML meant for the builder to use the temporary jig only for correct placement of the internal gun travel lock. Instead many people glued the pieces in. (Many magazine articles at that time had the error too!). Make sure you’re aware of the possible instructions error. Their newest kits have corrected the error.

Great heads up T26E4, I will pay close attention to that point. I can't guarantee I won't make a mistake however knowing is half the battle. Gonna try to have more WIP pics this weekend. I try to maximize the subassemblies construction while I'm away from home and show work when I get home. Thanks again.

Good morning, kinda bumping my WIP, T26E4 I found those jigs you mentioned, thank you so much for the heads up as I would have glued them in, THANK YOU for a missed fauxpa. I have done some research and found it is an early Hummel, so thats a good thing. Since it was developed in 1942 and put in production in '43 I have to confirm which drive sprocket is appropriate.

 I am wondering if the trapeze set up that mounts on the gun carriage in the fighting compartment and attaches to the hull is a travel lock or if it stays attached and allows the gun to elevate and traverse. I think it is removed for battery but???. Ther wwill be pictures before the end of the weekend. Long weekend at home and I got alot done.

The travel lock is folded up when the vehicle is in firing position, as shown in this photo of the Panzermuseum Munster example;

 The very earliest production run had drive sprockets from a Panzer III ausf E, with the round holes, however, most vehicles had the sprockets from a Panzer III ausf J. Some photos show Hummels without the "hubcap", displaying the exposed nuts which hold the sprocket to the final drive, as can (barely) be seen here.

 This shows my progress so far, I had to cut the exhaust,(Ausspuff), pipe then drilled it out for effect. My plan is to get some paint on the thing and get the fighting compartment floor weathered before installing the gun. I also plan on adding a couple Kar 98s in the left hand rack as well as digging throu the spare parts box for magazine pouches for both the Kars and the sub machine guns. My ultimate finish will be 3 tone camo with markings. So far digging the kit, no real fir issues. Like with any model planning is a major part of success, hope I'm headied in the right direction.

BAAAHAAHAAHA Dude don't get us shut down LOL I hope they like the Hummel LOL. Ireally hope I can do it justice and build it as you may have invisioned it Tim, It is yours as much as it is mine.

 I was going to do a Panzer Grey with Ocher Brown splinter camo on it . I was told that was the Spring/Summer of 43 camo used in France. But I couldn't confirm that.

I also couldn't confirm that any Hummel was in france at that time.

 What did you think of the "Decal sheet" ...... all 1/2 X 1/2  inches of it.

I got ahold of some Tamyia ,( I think), stensils for the Balkenkruitz, and I may try my hand at the artillery markings. Gonna practice first before paint on the model. Glad there are darn few decals if my plan goes south. My research saus they went into full production in '43, which would make the color DunkleGelb from the factory, however, the Hummel was designed to be a "field modification" of a 15cm gun on a Panzer IV chassis so that opens up some options. Barbarrosa, ( Kursk), was where they showed up. They went to France in '44 and as part of the 9 SS took part in several operations. If I remember correctly they were also in Normandy, again '44 so a grey with ochre splinter would be very hard to verify.

Thanks Gamera, as stated before, I am trying to maximize the subassemblies prior to aplication of paint. Getting close though.
