Regarding Bill Plunk's "Replicating Red 421" in the July issue.

In the artice, Bill mentions that the inner surfaces of the road wheels were painted red primer while the outer surfaces received the outer base coat.  Did that only apply to Pz. IIIs and IVs and all their variants, or was that done on everything, including Panthers and both Tigers?

Curious to see how wrong I've been painting panzer road wheels all this time.

Bill is correct. Outer surfaces were painted the base coat while the inner surface was just left in the red oxide primer. This was done on all panzers.

There is nothing stopping you painting the inner surfaces of your roadwheels the base coat colour at all.

Thanks for the info snap.  Just for something diffrent, next panzer gets the inner surface primer treatment.

They’re gonna get covered in dust, mud, and muck pretty quickly in use anyways. Not to mention that those substances along with any track guide teeth will start wearing away any paint or primer on the inner faces of the road wheels.
