Thanks Tojo. Solvaset works every time making the decals look like paint.

Do you mean you can use it without a gloss coat ?  Or is it just better than the usual microset?

Your big kitten is absolutely stunning, by the way!

Thanks! Solvaset is stronger and works better than the Microset stuff. I usually gloss the model prior to decaling to avoid silvering. In this case the decals were minimal and were all trimmed clean of any carrier film so it would have been ok to apply over a flat finish then some Solvaset melts the decals down. I did gloss the cat to help the wash flow into the zimm marks.

The decals look great and love the primer red on the flaked off zimmerit areas.

Good-looking tank. Yes

Interesting to watch your zimmerit work. I didn't know those decals existed. Nice patching work around the areas of mismatch.

 Thanks guys!

The King Tiger is completed. Just a tad of info on this cat which is incorrectly called the Porsche turret when in fact Krupp was the designer of both this early one and the production turret incorrectly called the Henschel turret. Henschel was the builder of the hull but had nothing to do with the turret design or construction.

Here's the completed cat.

PJ,

I see 4 thing wrong with this build.

1. The road wheels on a "Porsche turret" KT should be 76.2cm, what you have are clearly 75.2cm wheels.

2. The Zim rows on the Glacis plate should be no more that 74, you have at least three rows with more.

3. The grass under the tank should be more brown due to the time of year.

4. I'm completely messing with you! This is one beautiful build!

Now for the real observations.

1. I really like the Meng Zimmerit you used. Is it really a water slide decal? Or is it an adhevise backed "sticker". For lack of a better term.

2. I really like your weathering, very subtle and it looks like you added some grass to the tracks. Nice touch.

3. Thank you for the explanation on the "Porsche" vs. "Henschel" turrets.

Very well done! Bravo!

You've done a beautiful job on her. I would also like to know about the zim decal.

Thanks guys for the nice comments, I'm glad you like how the big cat came out.

The Meng decals are water slide but tend to lift at the edges when dry so I used thin ca, Aleene's and even Future to lay down the lifted edges. I experimented with different gluing mediums and all worked equally well. I tried this Meng zimm decal as an experiment not knowing if it was gonna fit over the Dragon mold but it worked just fine. It was on sale at Squadron so I figured why not. They also make several patterns for the Panther so hopefully it too will fit over the Dragon Panther.

The weathering on the road wheels was made with a thick mix of MMP dirt colored powder and rubbing alcohol slopped on. It dries within a few minutes and can be fine tuned with a small brush to remove some and blend the effect.

Work of art.

And BTW, looking at some of the closer up pics, I'd think I was looking at a real one.

That is a very nice kitty. The subtle weathering is excellent and the zimmerit is spot on. I really like your red oxide concoction. I personally would have gone for a clear blue or glossy black periscope blocks but it works with the clear green.
