Proper color

Looking for opinions on what is the best color to use for modern armor to replicate the color from Desert Storm? There are several out there I was wondering which ones are the closest to the actual color used?

US Army? Some of the colors were all over the wall. 2AD out of Hood used a desert sand color that looked darn right pink. Many of the 1st Tiger Brigade, 2AD's wheeled vehicles were still in this shade when they became the 3rd Greywolf Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division.

Most of the units used a yellower desert sand that flaked and chipped off of the NATO 3-color underneath. Testors Model Master Modern Desert Sand is a good match in spray can and in small bottles.

As Rob says, there was no standard sand color for Desert Storm.  I prefer Testors Model Master Army/Marine Gulf War Sand.  It is based on a non-FS # color that was used in Saudi Arabia during ODS ('90-'91). It was a commercially bought paint in Saudi that was used to get vehicles painted sand quickly. It is darker than FS# 33531 CARC Sand.

Photos show most 24th ID stuff was sand color prior to deployment, or at least when loaded on the the ships in Savannah. Was their stuff in CARC sand?

Yes, 24 ID was already in CARC Sand when they deployed.  I think they were the only unit that was painted in CARC Sand at the time.
