1950's military personel carriers and dump trucks

I have the tracvcked vehicle companion book. It's pretty nice, but the descriptions are brief because they have a lot of subjects to cover.

Speaking of 1950's APCs, I am still on the hunt for a couple of M59s.

COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) was a "thing" even before the acronym.

Which will give a nice range of stake bed and similar cargo vehicles.  Usually, the more complicated part is having Scalemates open when one finds an interesting one.

Just curious if this kit rings any bells with anyone from back then and if anything is around like it today ?

 

 

I'm wondering if it was one of the Peerless or LifeLie kits.  They had a whole range of oddball vehicles.

Peerless had a 1.5 ton 6x6, and I never built one to know if it modeled the powedr front axle.  They also modeled the dump body 2.5ton truck, which was the only one of its kind for quite some time moulds bought up by Italeri and reboxed by Testor's, too--if memory serves).

LifeLike was reissues of Renwal (IIRC) in a number of scales, if with a cluster of things at 1/40. 

All that being said, I'm guessing the above posters were probably closer to correct with that old REO.  Boxes and box art were pretty cheap, and would be used in various ways.  Or, to the needs of the Five & Dime store that promised to buy 5 each per store.

 

 

 

 

Life-Like reissued the old Snap Adams (and certain Revell kits Adams made for Revell but owned) in Revell's 1/40 scale. Renwal kits were 1/32 scale and were reissued by Revell in 1982-3 and again fairly recently.

I like the Peerless-Max but that isn't it. The cab on what I built is like a civilian cab of the 1955-58 or so years ( 3100-6400 series trucks). I'm thinking these would be base trucks more than in the field combat trucks, if they even existed in real.

Anything is possible. The model of this thread though had the Chevy/GM cab. I knew the cab because I was into cars and trucks at a young age plus a neighbor had a 55 Chevy pickup and now and then gave me a ride to school in it. Same basic cab.

That isn't to say I never built an M35 though, it's possible.

I've built the M38 AFV Club kit. It is really nice. A difficult build as it has about twice as many parts as the Tamiya WW2 Jeep.

Guys, I like the idea of a deuce and jeep combo but not so hot on a lousy one lol ! On the other hand it's only $30 at Amazon.

I don't think the Chevy is available anywhere but it's no big deal. I like the M35 better anyway, it's probably what I wanted as a kid and someone got me the Chevy as a bday gift or something.

 

 

 

Well, if you want a new tool modern kit of the M35 series trucks, AFV Club probably makes the best one in 1/35. If not the only 1/35 M35 kits. The M34 kit originally by Monogram is dated, but not terrible. But it is the only M34 in 1/35 scale out there. The jeep, well there are plenty of better kits out there now-  Tamiya, old and new, Italeri/Revell Germany, Dragon.... For M38 series jeeps there is the Skybow/AFV Club kit. And for M151 series jeeps there is Tamiya and Academy.

But If you can get that Deuce & Jeep paired kit for a good price on sale somewhere...

That Reo was recently reissued by Revell Germany in a box together with a Jeep, so unless you just HAVE to have it in the original box, you can buy it really cheap plus you get a bonus Jeep (not a very good one, though).

The Revell Germany kit is the old Monogram M34 Deuce and Jeep, not the Revell M35 Deuce.

This time the link brought me to a page of Scalemate links. I picked one, I went there but off hand didn't see many 50's chevy trucks in my search. It's ok, thanks for the effort !

Edit: Incidentally the M35 ( the truck you showed) was built by Reo, I didn't know that before today, so I learned something by posting here today ! I never considered Reo as a military truck maker actually but it makes sense. Kaiser too.

I checked everything on scalemates and could not see any with a jet on the box. 1/35th didn't become popular until the 70's thanks to tamiya. If you can get the link to work, this is everything listed on scalemates under Revell Truck.

Maybe, I don't recall any civilian options in the kit though and I'm guessing or seem to recall that it was molded in olive/green. I don't fully recall the box art but my imagination has an F104 or some other jet in the background.

That looks cool though ! Hmm, 1/40 scale.

Edit: the more I look at this kit, it must be it. The model photo looks it more than the box art of course.
