It’s not an armor modeling magazine. Get over it. Too bad about your local store being closed, but maybe FSM is not for you. Check out some of the European mags that might be more to your taste. Although they have generally become all pictures, and little text or actual information.

I do, I build armor, aircraft, ships and star wars. There was just someone the other day talking about no auto related stuff in FSM. Even though they have a entire separate magazine dedicated to just auto. I'm happy to see more sci fi related articles and hope to see more.

Wow... you're grumpy when it's close to ringing in the New Year.

As someone has already mentioned, FSM isn't catered to just armour. They also feature aircrafts, space / sci-fi stuff, figures, etc...

If that's not good enough for you, cancel your subscription and get over it.

Thanks,

Hey everyone, cool heads!  Let’s not end the year on a sour note!  To the OP, yes do check out other pubs that cater to your specific area of interest.  FSM is a broad spectrum mag.  They also have a dedicated auto publication.  Tamiya‘s mag branched out to specific aircraft and armor pubs too.  There’s a lot to choose from out there.

Personally, I bought the original “Damaged” mag, and I liked it, especially the forklift and Mad Max’s car.  My only criticism is that like a lot of European model mags, it’s mostly pretty photos and sparse “how it is done” step by steps.

I bought my first Fine Scale Modeler magazine because it had a photo of a Star Trek ship the USS Grissom on the cover. I already had a military modeling magazine.

Just got a subscription offer advertisement from FSM in the mail today. Went straight in the recycle bin. $30 for a year subscription? Yeah right... If you offered it at $15 or even $20 for the year, I'd consider it.

I got one as well, but I recall getting a handful of them last year for a lot less, probably after 3-4 notices.

I'm actually a bit surprised at the complaints of the cost.  $30 for 10 issues is pretty good in my opinion.  $3 per issue.  Barely more than a cup of coffee or about the same price as a weekend newspaper.  And it's somethin you can collect and refer back to, etc.

To each their own I guess, everyone's idea of value is different I suppose.

Keep in mind though, Finescale has to make SOME money.  They can't just give it away.  Also, print media is taking a HUGE hit and magazines are folding left and right.  Major magazines too, not just niche ones.  We should feel lucky that FSM is still around in this day and age.

I take it back, and I apologize for the confusion, it was $49.95 to renew when I got my last notice. That was to rich for my blood, and yes, I understand it's $5 an issue. In this case, I will go to my local Barns & Noble and purchase the magazine if it has content I would like to keep.

EDIT: For the record, I do not consider FSM a waste of paper, I like the magazine very much.

Ditto

That being said,I did not renew even at that discounted price which is pretty good.I was a subscriber since the beginning,in fact I had every issue save for a couple of early ones,I had them in the binders and really enjoyed flipping thru them while riding the stationary bike, but when I moved earlier this year,I dumped the whole lot. While I enjoy FSM there really isnt anything you cant get for free on the net or the forums,so I just stopped. The only magazine I get now is Miltary History, and I just started again recently.

My wife gets a slew of home and cooking magazines, usually for  $ 5-10 or she wont get them, now thats cheap

Picked up my copy of 'Damaged' at my local hobby shop yesterday and am reading it over lunch. Already I'm thinking of all the techniques used on the forklift that I can apply to my next armour project. Just started on the SW Snowspeeder...

So far I'm really impressed by the quality of the projects and the step by step photos on how to duplicate the artist's work.

Gotta say, at $5 per issue, that is still a good deal. Especially with all the info you get in the magazine. With MMI and other magazines at around $10-12, I think I will stick with FSM.
