Display cases and cabinet recommendations
Posted by Tankluver on Monday, February 11, 2019 10:32 AM

Hi all, does anyone have any recommendations for a company that would make a display case that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg, or are there any relatively easy DIY cases that I could assemble myself?

If you are a woodworker you can make a custom one at the fraction of the cost of having one built By someone else.

Another option is to be on the lookout for stores closing up. A while back an antique shop in my area was closing up and He was selling all the display cases. I got one that is about 6ft tall by 5ft wide, mirrored and lighted for $200. I should have bought two of them for that price which was way cheaper that even making it yourself.

I have a friend who has an extensive Star Wars collection that he displays in several of these cabinets from Ikea: here

Otherwise, I'm going to do what PJ suggests and make my own.

Ikea has this style of cabinet:

You could display all sorts of models in it besides armor.

You didn't actually specify if you were looking for cabinet type cases or just cases for display of one or two models for each. For the latter, I have got cases at Hobby Lobby and the same type on Amazon. They are approx 15" x 7" by 7" high and work well for 1/35 armor.

If you're one of "those guys" who has hundreds of complete models and hundreds in the stash, then I guess you can ignore this post. ;)

sorry i didn’t specify. I’ve ysed a few of the Bobby lobby cases. I just did an armored “train” using the dml artillerwagen, kommandowagen and made a Flak wagen with a kubelwitz turret on it. It came out to be about 24” long. I started realizing that it’d look good if i could get a display case for it and maybe build up a Base and use soem model gravel. I am an armor guy but i got a soft spot for trains. But eventually i want a big cabinet to display my armor and maybe custom made cases for dioramas and my rail models.
