Panther Group Build Feeler with a difference.
Posted by snapdragonxxx on Saturday, March 9, 2019 7:52 AM

As with the 12 day challenge which quite a few joined in with over Christmas I would like to start a group build for the Panzerkamfwagen V "Panther".

This will be different though and will have no time limit so anybody can join in when they want.

This is how I am considering the format....

1/35 scale and anything on a Panther Chassis - Begerpanther, Jagdpanther, concept, blueprint etc. is allowed along with associated aftermarket.

No time limit. Build as many as you want.

Build logs should be detailed and include techniques etc from start to finish.

Each builder has their own individual discussion and the title shall be Mass Panther Build - (kit)

post it in this forum, not the group build as they are individual builds. Doing it this way will enable those building and following to keep a continal flow of individual builds and progress.

start with an overview and sprue shots of the kit along with AM stuff and your aim and basic plan for the build which can be fleshed out as you go along, or indeed before you start.

Volunteer to do a badge for those taking part NO dates, just a panther with "The Mass Panther Build" will do. Badge to be awarded on COMPLETION of your build, and one time, no matter how many you contribute.

No start date. No end date. Just jump in with a 1/35 Panther and lets see if we can actually beat the number of panther chassis' that were actually built!

Open to ideas, question comments etc

Why limit the scale to 1/35? There are guys here who build 1/72 and 1/48 as well.

Hopefully the idea is to have people step both into and out of their comfort zone and to get members to pass on and learn new skills and techniques which will eventually make us all better at our hobby.

I am not adverse to members who want to do 1/72 and 1/48 but I would like them to have a bash at something bigger too and I am also considering the addition of the recent 1/16 Trumpeter Panther.

Really I would like to get people out of the "Not my scale" mentality. This is usually due to the amount of room available to display stuff (IMHO) and while my starter post stated 1/35 only I also asked for opinions and other options so we can make it any scale, but how about asking those who do it in say 1/72 to also build one in 1/48 or 1/35 and vice versa or one of each scale?

The “my scale” mentality does have one particular aspect that has nothing to do with display space, no matter what the scale. That is continuity/consistency of a collection. Be it in whatever scale, it’s nice to have them all the same for comparison. I’ve built outside “my scale” a few times for a local club that I belong to. They were fun builds, and kits in those scales have come a long way since I standardized many years ago. Putting those outside the collection builds is not so much a space issue as much as a location issue. The one offs look out of place when displayed with the mainstream.

That aside, I like the idea of opening this up to any scale of Panther tank. A 1/16 or 1/25 kit in addition the usual suspects would be cool. And I’d be doing a “my scale” 1/35 Panther if I partake. Why? Because I don’t have one built currently in my 1/35 collection. But yes, I am interested.
