M992 FAASV color. Germany 87-89
Posted by kg4kpg on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 4:00 PM

I picked up a Riich 1/72 combo kit of the M109A2 and M992 so I could build the tracks I served on when I was in Germany in the late 80’s. I left Germany two weeks before the wall came down. Anyway, I know the howitzer colors, I just can’t figure out what the green is with the black on the FAASV. Here’s a pic of my tracks.

Thanks, Chris

They are both in standard NATO 3-color camo of Forest Green, Military Brown, and Flat Black.

Thanks Pawel.

Thanks HeavyArty, thought I’d hear from you. I always thought it was a different and darker pattern with some kind of euro green and black. I believe our battery had M548’s that were replaced with the 992’s but I don’t know when that happened. I got there in ‘87, so before then.

I was there in West Germany (smile) up till 1985 in an 8" M110 unit and we had the 548's till I left. Our other unit on post still had the 175mm long tube howitzers. We were hearing about these coming to replace the 548 though. I was the FDC Chief in C Battery 2/83 FA in Babenhausen, part of the 41st FA Bde (now all gone).

Looking forward to your build.

Small world, I was in HHB 2/83rd a couple years before you, left in '83. I heard they were preparing for Pershing missiles around the time I was outprocessing and the Local Germans were protesting.
