Dragon instructions, optional parts help please
Posted by XLNT on Sunday, June 30, 2019 5:23 AM

With Dragon instructions is there any consistancy regards the following?

With the optional parts symbol it then in my case shows 2 part numbers, say G1 or G2,one number above the other.

If i was to choose the upper OR lower number AND USE THAT ONLY consistantly through out , would this give the correct out come?

Rather than using the upper number in stage 1, the lower number in stage 3 ,the upper number in stage 4 etc, etc.

Really hard to know without knowing which kit you are building. If its a late war German build, then its very possable you might need to build the upper number in one stage and the lower in another depending on which period the vehicle you wnat to build was built.

If you wnat to build a Dragon kit accuratly, they do often require a bit of research to decide which options you are going for.

The kit is 6561 Ersatz M10

But i would think there are too many options listed for anyone to want to comment.

Can you see from built model photographs?

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Don't have that kit yet so just checked the instructions on line, not very clear but i got the jist. Thats a tricky one as its hard to tell which production period those Panthers were. I think Dragon are covering their bases by giving you options which will cover the latter stages of Panther production.

Given the older style of exhausts and from what i can see on the instructions, i would go with the upper number in each case. But hard to be certain.

Dragon creates a lot of versions by combining sprues of different kits. So often you will get Sprue G from one kit and Sprue G from a different kit both in a third kit.

It makes instructions often difficult to follow, plus they are known to make errors in their instructions.

On the plus side, they will often include an entire sprue of something like a turret just to have you use the machine gun on that version.

I've got an entire box of partial Dragon sprues that were excess parts because I used a handful of parts from the sprue.

The two vehicle options are labeled as B7 and B4, having an added grey background to help spot this.

Since the kit includes PE (parts are prefixed with MA), you have a choice with a few details of going either metal or plastic.

The other options are likely originating from the original Panther Ausf. G kit.  A review stated three westerners were involved with the research/design - so am assuming they couldn't conclude which options were correct for the Ersatz M10, so left that open to the builder?

Jack
