Hello,
It's been a few years since I was active on the forum and really since I've been building anything either... but being stuck at home a lot the last few months I've been enjoying time with some old kits from the unboxed collection. I picked out this 1/32 Tamiya Sherman that had been sitting on a shelf for years. It's my first attempt at armor ever, actually the first kit I've built that isn't a plane, so this was new to me.
The Tamiya kit was pretty much flawless in terms of fit and finish, a real pleasure to work with. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the green plastic was so close to the green I airbrushed with that it was very difficult to paint! haha. I also picked up a "Fury" resin detail up kit. I can't remember who made it, but it had all the fun and interesting additions that the movie tank had where-as the Tamiya kit out of the box had little to no additional details, which was fine. I used most of the kit details but stopped when I felt like it was starting to cover up the details and decals of the tank. I did discard the resin "logs" and used real wood twigs instead.
The base is a random wooden base I picked up on amazon for a few bucks, I'll finish it with some wood stain once I'm done painting the details and finishing that up. The cobblestones are Plus-model 1/48 cobbles as they looked more reasonable in size at that scale, all laid by hand and covered in mud and dirt. The mud is mostly paper-mache and a very liberal amount of vallejo mud and dirt detailing. I get a bit carried away with weathering and details sometimes because I really enjoy doing it...
I forget who made the resin characters but they are also "fury" specific editions and actually do look impressively like the actors in the movie. I have some work to do to finish them off as well but they are coming up nicely, I think.
The plaque on the front says "best job I ever had" and I picked that up for a few dollars on Etsy to name the diorama. I've really really enjoyed pulling this together the last few months while stuck on conference calls etc. It's one of my first dioramas and my first tank so I like it - always open to feedback and recomendations though, please!
