Chrysanthemum are one of the traditional flowers given during the Luna New Year in China. It's suppose to bring wealth, but usually it's yellow one. I'm guessing it's Red here because, well, it's Communist China right ?

Pick your country and choose your associated symbolism;

There's a build on youtube where he focuses in on it towards the end. It looks just like the picture you posted.

The model subject is interesting. It was the third release of the kit, the first two being of the tankette under it's original IJA ownership.

This one seems to be Chinese Communist post 1949 I guess.

The kit decals are red stars on the turret.

 Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

How's this?  The best image I could find was uploaded to Scalemates.  It's still hard to make out what the object is:

If you'd like to know how I uploaded this:

  1. I started a new post
  2. I clicked Insert, chose Insert Image, which opened the Insert Image dialog popup
  3. In the Source box, I pasted the URL of the image from Scalemates, then clicked OK

I usually use links for images stored at PostImage, but I didn't feel like downloading the image and then uploading it to PostImage, just for this.  But I hope this helps you.

Interesting, if it is a chrysanthemum, because to the Japanese, it's an emblem of the Emperor.

The bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.

It appears to be a chrysanthemum, which is a symbol of vitality and longevity in Chinese culture.

Whether it is real, cloth or some other material, I don't know.
