Finally getting some bench time. Got the empty storage containers filled with stuff now it's time to close the hull. Tarp and maintenance rag made from Milliput along with some water cans and a big pair of snips. How did those big scissor things make their way into this vehicle, only the crew knows!

Thanks buddy.  I must say armor is a welcome break from aircraft. This whole project is taking entirely too long though because bench time is too few and far between nowadays.

Can't see your pics at the moment mate, will be sure to check them out tonight. But i guess by big scissors you are reffering to the wire cutters. AFV's still carry those today and they do come in handy.

Makes sense based on the way they look.  Thank you for letting me know about the tarp!

Looking very nice there chad. Like the metal effect on the cutters and the wood on the amo box. And that rag is a nice touch, out of miliput you say, will have to remember that. Have you test fitted the top half, looks like it might be a close thing with those jerry cans.

I actually had to angle the jerry cans in a little!

Geez folks, where has this year gone!

Back on this bad boy. Prior to priming, I applied a layer of winter muck to the undersides. I then applied some black primer, then sprayed the initial color coat intentionally leaving the bottom sides somewhat dark.

I had forgotten all about this one. That dried muck on the lower hull is very convincing! What color is the final shade?

Thank you Stik.  The final coat was a lightened version of Tamiya dark yellow. I sprayed a little heavier on top and a little more reserved on the bottom. This being the start of many layers of weathering. Sad

Hi friends!  Camouflage laid down.  I intentionally used lighter shades of Tamiya brown and green because the flat coat will darken them.  Next are the many layers of weathering. Beer

Hello friends.  Not the best quality pictures here but heres the next update.  The kit was sprayed with gloss then I applied a black wash around the top of the hull and removed the excess.  The bottom of the hull was saturated with thinned black enamel to further accentuate the muck.  I then, very lightly, applied thinned black streaking from the top of the hull down.  Tomorrow I'll add a filter or two and streak again with some various earth tones before I apply a matte coat.

Hello friends. Another weathering update. The hull and wheels have been given a filter of raw umber oil, and streaks with raw umber and black. Still very faint at this point.  Next will come more strategic streaking, but I will let all this dry overnight.

I rarely come over to the armor section as I'm mostly an aircraft guy.  I'm glad I checked this out.  Really cool build you got here.  I really like the weathering.  You absolutely nailed it!  Now I want to try an armor model.  Thanks for the inspiration.

Chad, i love it. Really nicely finished. I love the weathering, i have been trying to get that subtle level of finsh, i am going to try your method. And its given me an itch to do my next 251, seeing as i haven't done one in nearly 30 months i am over due.

30 months?! You owe it to yourself! Thank you my friend for your kind words.  I'm thinking of keeping with the halftrack theme myself and doing a 1/35 Famo WIP.

Thanks Gam!  A little brown paint, some baking soda, and some static grass can produce nice results.
