looking for 1960's f1 cars

My understanding is that F1 cars are generally done in 1/20 and 1/12 scales, not 1/24-25.  No idea why that came about, but there's a ton of Tamiya F1 cars out there. 

1:43 is popular for F1 also.

Same thing has happened to American open wheel race cars.  Used to be a lot of Indy cars, sprints and midgets.  No more.  Revell was courageous for bringing out their superb KK midget recently, but it did not sell well, and will likely be the last Revell open wheel american race car kit.

BTW, that is such a beautiful kit it is worth picking up one before they are all gone- it is unlikely to be repopped.

Does anyone know where I can find 1/24-1/25 scale models of 1960's F1 cars.  I have tried the internet but haven't had much luck.

Rick, I am one of those fanatics of F1 in the 1.5 liter years as represented in 1/24 scale. There are two simple kits and a still available excellent Hasegawa kit. The two simple kits are the "old" Cox static models of their slot car bodies. Those are the Ferrari 158 and BRM P261. They are nice, but simple and have excellent Dunlop tires. The Hasegawa kit is of the Honda RA272E that won the last 1.5 liter race in Mexico. There are also two metal kits by South East Finecast. A bit crude IMHO and yet can be built up intp fine examples of Lotus 25 and 33.

Now that said I have scratch-bashed many other cars such as Cooper, BRP, and Brabham. This was done using 60s slot car bodies. They all had to be modified and I always had to add bashed up suspensions. I have a good group of 1.5 liter cars in 1/24 model form. The slot bodies have become expensive however and unless you are crazy like me it's not really cost effective to do what I've done.

Rick, Yes there are some 1/24 F1 cars of the 1.5 liter years! I've built many of them. Foe example...Ferrari 1512...

Honda RA271...

BRM P261 early...

and late...

Lotus Mk25...

So yes there are some out there! You just have to scratch-bash a lot.
