I always get excited when the NFL is over because that means Daytona. With that in mind, I thought I would share some history with a few of my builds.

Below is the Ford Thunderbird of Geoff Bodine as driven in 1994. He purchased Alan Kulwicki's team after his death in 1993 from an aviation accident. He won three races in 1994.

The interesting part to this kit is the Hoosier tires. Hoosier tried to break in a couple of times, with 1994 being the last time. Kudos to Monogram for including these in their kits when released, and I believe this was the only kit they showed up in. Too bad the nose wasn't updated.

Love that era of NASCAR! That scheme sure brings back a lot of memories. I miss all of those boxings, I have built many many of them in the past. Somewhat related to Geoff Bodine, one of the female truck racers, since retired, lives here in town and owns a motorcycle shop. I believe she actually used to race Geoffs Cup truck as well as was the first woman driver in the Craftsman Truck series.

Excellent finish my fellow Vol!

Nice.....funny you should bring up old cup cars.   Cat was up on the shelf in a closet and uncovered an old kit (still boxed) of Elliott's # 9 with Coors decals, and I think somewhere I have a Miller Lite and Bud car somewhere, none of them built.

Great looking model. I remember the tire wars all too well.lots of safety issues due to manufacturers trying to make there tire lighter.NASCAR is unveiling some sort of charter system.I don't know all the details yet. Mike

Too bad we have to seek out old kits to get decent NASCAR models.  I will probably build the new ones, but they sure don't look all that great.  I suspect the combination of loss of popularity of NASCAR plus the high licensing fees have drove us to the present situation.

It is definitely less appealing and I just can't really put my finger on why. I was a huge NASCAR fan back before Dale died. I have cabinets full of diecast, cards, postcards, and autographed memorabilia. I have tried to force myself to watch it in recent years but I just can't stick with it for some reason.
