General Lee.....ish Charger-Completed-12/28

You know I'm following!  I have 2 out of 3 of these (at least the Eckler wheels).  Looking forward to the reveal.

I owned a Plymouth Duster, think it had the 383. A tank, fun to go to the pizza parlor.

Those GL's I think the show used up about 90 of them.

In a world of 440's and Hemi's the 383 was still no joke as it still had plenty of power to put some contenders in place.

I have a friend here at work that's got a brother who's totally Mopar and had a 69 Charger R/T some years ago. The producers of The Dukes of Hazzard contacted him and offered to purchase his 69 in which he promptly responded.....not just no but HELL no!! R/T's are sacred!!!

Ya did aggod job on the vinal roof. Nary a smiggin of the old stuff left. 

Leave it to you to get a mirror-like reflection on bare styrene.

I'm going to enjoy this build my friend. Love that you choose to revisit models you had built when you were younger. It's a sweet subject and it's fun to watch you "Frankenstein" diffeerent kits to get the results you envision.

Superb effort on sanding the roof. That came out terrific.

Found the paint that I want to use. I've been eyeballing this color anyways because I've seen a few of the newer Chargers painted this color and I have developed a liking to it.



Here we are all cleaned up and primed. Still gotta do a teeny bit of sanding but it went on really smooth:

I parked next to one the other day. I like the color too. It's pretty much perfect on a Charger.

Im on board. General lee or not the 69 is one of my all time favourites, having the flag on the roof just makes it that much more exciting!

Thanks for the comments guys. Greg, that's exactly how I came across the color myself. Parked next to one at Lowe's and new instantly that was the color I wanted to use.

Managed to dispense and apply the paint this morning. This stuff went on really good. I'll start the wet sanding process in a few days to smooth everything out that much more before I start with the decaling and clear coats. We'll be using the "Wet Look" clear on this one so it'll really pop.

I love that color Joe. Once you've given that your patented treatment it's going to be eye popping for sure. Good to see you making solid progress.

It already looks better than any auto body I've done so far, and you haven't wet-sanded or clear-coated yet.

I wonder if I'd be the only one who would appreciate a blow by blow of your wet sanding process, including types and grits of paper used? I'd bet not.

Fun fact. The General Lee on TV was actually painted RED so that when filmed it would show up Orange. Apparently it has to do with the camera and how it picks up colors. I learned that on Grave Yard Cars when the restored one of the General Lees from the Movie. 

I love what you've got going on here. It is coming along nicely.

Looks great.  I just picked up a can of that.  I was going to do my dart with it but now I'm reconsidering.

Keavdog: A darker primer underneath will make this color a little darker if that helps you any.

I spent a lot of time wet sanding the imperfections out of the paint and then applying Bare Metal Foil around all the window trim and drip rails and today...the decals. Here's a couple of shots of how it sits now. Still got the flag decal coated with Microsol to help it all lay flat onto the roofline. Had a couple of areas on the edges where it didn't want to lay down flush. Now to let the cals dry and then off to the gloss coat....my favorite part.

Today was Gloss Coat day soooo......I broke out the Testors "Wet Look" Clear ….the ONLY way to go for supreme gloss finishes in my experience. I dispensed it into a paint jar, let 'er gas out for about 5 minutes while I was removing whatever dust particles I could find on the body and went to work.


Couldn't be happier with the results. Now...……..to let it cure out for a couple of days before a nice wet sanding and polishing.

Have you ever used Alclad II Clear Lacquers, Joe? I'm curious how you would compare the finish with the Testors Wet Look.

Greg: No sir I am extremely happy with Wet Look clear as long as I dispense it and shoot it through an airbrush. If something is working for me I aint about to change it.

Stunning finish Joe. You are definitely on to a fantastic technique with that Wet Look clear coat. You certainly have had me sold on it since you first started using. Maybe there will come a day when I might actually try it on an auto model. I truly believe that that day may come. Hopefully. Maybe.
